Not exactly in Newcastle, nor have I got any tats. Northside Tattooz (?) in Whitley have a very good rep. My son gets his done there and they are pretty damned good :-)

Another vote for Northside in Whitley Bay, one of my friends gets his work done there and it's ace. I'll be getting some stuff done there in the future.

You wont get better than Mark Bester. He has a studio near Yarm so about 35mins away but definitely worth the travel.
He is always in magazines, at shows etc. Got mine done about 2 years a go now by Paul who works with him, here is some of his work

Northside have a shop in Newcastle town centre also, it's just off Clayton St West. I don't have any tattoos but my girlfriend does and she won't go anywhere else. A guy I used to go to school with is there and his work is excellent.

All the studios mentioned above have some excellent artists but it really depends what you want a tattoo of as they all have individual styles or are specialists in certain types of work, we are spoilt for choice in the North East for tattooists to be fair, we have 2 of the best in the UK in John Anderton at Nemisis in Seaham and Bez at 666 in Sunderland, if you know what style or type of tattoo you want you can then match to an artist or studio.

Tattoos are a big love for me, up there with cars but I know a lot more about tattoos but the key thing is good tattoos aren't cheap but cheap tattoos aren't generally good, it's true with this that you get what you pay for.

At one time the first name mentioned on this topic would have been Ozzies off Byker bridge

I don't think that is even there anymore? As far as I can remember, the shops on Byker Bridge are Sounds Alarming, an African/Carribean food store, a barbers, Sharkey's taxi office and the The Tanners. But I can remember seeing a tattoo artist there at one point. There was also another one on Chilly Road, I can't remember the name of it other than thinking it looked very odd and old fashioned with it's hand painted sign, which curiously advertised 'pain numbing cream'.

Reviving an old topic.....

There seems to be an endless amount of studios/artists in Newcastle now. Anyone got any more recent recommendations? Am feeling a semi-mid-life-crisis to get some more ink done.

Alright Tim how's it going, as mentioned above you can't really get much better that Triple6 in Sunderland, my brother runs it for Bez and my other brother Peter tattoos there. There are loads of artists work there all with different styles and you can pretty much find a quality artist to do exactly what you want.
