I'm after finding somewhere to have some custom manifolds made up. I've gone to the expense of putting a brand new small block Chevy V8 in my pickup truck instead of rebuilding the one that's in, I'll be swapping most bits over from my existing engine with the exception of a new Edelbrock inlet manifold to match the carb, now reading up on a bolt on performance build here:

http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/techarticles/463...

They claim 17bhp & 53 lb/ft just from swapping the restrictive cast manifolds (which I have) to new free flowing manifolds, that's the sort of gains I like. I just need to find someone who could make them up. I phoned AAS a while back but he didn't seem very keen on making manifolds to match up with my existing system, he wanted to build a full exhaust instead which isn't really what I need. Is there anywhere else I could try that's reputable?

Give AAS another go, if his work load is less or he has got rid of a big project taking space up im sure he will accomodate, they are just too busy at times!

Ill give them another try then, I've got to head over that way later anyway as I need to see about getting the radiator re-cored. Might be better asking in person.

Always had my work done by AAS - The Griff 500 and more recently the Tamora - but apparently the guys just down the road from them....is it Tyre Spot?...do bespoke exhaust work? I can't vouch for this personally, just heard it on the grape vine as it were so might be worth a call.

I went in to ask about tyres once and saw them making a custom exhaust to a car on the ramp, from what I saw id stick with AAS. Might aswell have just had an industrial blow torch 10feet away with the way he was trying to weld it.

Well, called in earlier, he definitely knows his stuff, I've also seen his work first hand on a roll cage my mate had made up for his Volvo 360, they did a superb job. He showed me some work they have done on a Granada limo/hearse that has a small block Chevy and it was very well done. £900 -£1k though for a full system and a 2 1/2 month wait. Suppose it gives me time to save up!

Cheers everyone.

Just hope any existing nuts or bolts come loose for him. Otherwise that causes him a problem.

He can't really handle problems that guy.

snigger! So true!

And he never does anything wrong. It's always the car's/engine's/driver's fault if anything goes wrong.

I'd rather travel a LOT further than go to AAS.

This. Fabulous work, though experience suggests they never seem enthusiastic about taking work on. They are, quite frankly, inundated. I went in in early February to get booked in for a full stainless steel exhaust for my 106 Rallye - the first available day was at the start of June! Counting down the days now though. Be prepared to go there and feel as though you are asking the earth when you see their reaction! But friends of mine who have been there have experienced this too, if you can pay they will make it but they'll never seem happy about doing so.

Their work is so good that people come from all over Britain to get things made up for them, hence why they are so busy. And locally, they are well known too!

To be fair ive had 2 issues with things done by them, both times they went completely out of their way to fix the issues, one of which required parts from the US which he got within 48 hours and kept the car in so it was ready for me to go to a track day and delayed another big job which would have been worth quite a bit in takings to him to sort me out. Best bit was a belt snapped on the car ripping a load of wires out and it was nothing at all to do with the install they did, he had no obligation to help me at all.

Know of many other people who have been helped out massively by them.

Fair enough. Speak as you find. Personally I'd never go back and its not base solely on my own experiences but those of others I know well too.

I had a custom backbox made up for my Type R to match the unsilenced centre pipe. Just a small job in the grand scheme of things, the kind of thing they can knock up in their sleep. When I booked it was going to be a 2 and a half month wait, but they had a cancellation so they contacted me to see if I wanted my build brought forward, which of course I agreed to. Proactive customer service, and the quality of the item was second to none and bang on the brief. I wouldn't take my cars anywhere else for custom exhaust stuff, even if they are pricey and have a long waiting list compared to other places.

Pricey? You should see the price of Wortec exhausts for Monaros and VXR8s!! And they're off the shelf parts made by Quicksilver.

Oh I'm fully familiar with pricey - I've seen Titanium catback systems for a Type R reach over £3000 and even some stainless steel items fetch over £1500, which is staggering when you consider the simplicity of the systems. Makes £3000 for a 911 exhaust look a bit of a bargain tbh.

What I meant was, as far as handbuilt custom stuff goes, AAS usually charge say, £400-ish for a single pipe catback for something like a Type R, Impreza etc, there are a lot of places who'd knock them out at half the price and on a couple of days notice. But you get what you pay for, I've seen some pretty naff custom systems in my time. One of my friends had a fairly naff Powerflow one on a Fiesta ST, which was cheap but turned out to be a false economy.
