Careful new truvelo
Discussion
Watch it there's a new truvelo on the Coast Road (A1058) just before Benton Road junction heading towards the coast. Installed and sensor in the road already but not sure its live yet. Its still inside the 50 limit at this point, goes to 60 a few hundred meters later.
Its in a fairly obvious place but just keep an eye out
A few of these popping up lately, scameraship profits down this year or something?

and there's one popped up heading towards newcastle on the other side now... obviously the talivan was profitable, but only there during certain hours - so they want to cream the rest of it off 24hrs a day, 7 days a week...
bloody scamming bstards... having said that, it's just up the road from wallsend way, so how much do people want to bet that they *hopefully* get necklaced within the coming weeks and months!! hehe

No they have sensors embedded in the road in front of where the camera is sited to detect your speed. So not picked up by any type of radar/laser detector. On the other hand they can not be moved around like gatsos. They take a forward facing picture so probably record who is driving, as well as blinding you momentarily if they need to flash (safety, pah!) Bikes without front plates are immune.
These are nasier than gatsos - if you only notice them as you pass then you are already done.

Yes they flash but its infra-red so you don't see it and they also work at night. They have no radar or laser as they use inductive loops in the road. The white lines are used to decide who was speeding on a 2 lane road if 2 cars are in the picture. The inductive loops are before the lines, as long as you are under the limit when you pass the sensor then you are OK
I dunno there was probably and accident not last Sunday but the Sunday before as the scamera van pulled into position. He was in the Newcastle bound bus stop at the bottom of the hill but had his nose facing the coast and had pulled half onto the pavement and a fair way down the pedestrian path so that he was hidden in the bushes. He would had to have pulled a U turn if he came from the coast or crossed two lanes of traffic if he came from Newcastle. I didn't see him do it but thats the only way he could have got there without a helidrop. I'm just glad he had my safety in mind while he was doing it. Can you imagine what they would be like if they didn't have our safety in mind
Was on my way to work and didn't have a digicam otherwise I would have stopped for a photo op

A I saw him there as well - in fact, I thought I had got done, as I was driving westbound and didn't clock him until I was halfway down the hill. I must have been doing approx 50, but given he was facing me with the front of the van, I think he must have been trying to get people coming the other way through the tunnel. Well, unless of course they are pointing the camera out of the windscreen now, if so, I should expect a notice through the door any day.
