I use http://www.cartechprestige.com in hartlepool. Excellent work.
Give Dean a call: http://www.dwmotorworks.co.uk/
He used to be the head M technician at one of the local dealers for some years before setting up on his own.
Cannot recommend him enough.

You could try Cliffs Service Station in Grangetown, I've never used them yet, but I've heard many recommendations from different folk who have.
The very same cliffs service station that work out of a backstreet lockup and decided to try and fix a family friends rear brake problem in a very odd manor.
Both of the rear drums on the car had siezed after the car had sat for a few months, out they came to the house and decided to attempt to release them by not removing the rear wheels and releasing the shoes, cleaning up the drums and lubricating the relevant parts...... They tried to drive the car up and down the street leaving great big tyre marks over the driveway and road, over the neighbours drive and left the car there.
On return from the car owners work the car was found to have 2 flatspotted rear tyres, braeks still jammed on and a very stripey street with an extremely angry neighbour.
So they then refuse to admit liability but refund their callout charge. Rear brakes are fixed (properly this time) and cliffs service station are forced to pay for 2 new tyres AND a new clutch as they had burned it out trying to release the rear brakes.
Let them loose on anything technical? No thanks.

If your in the Teesside area try AW Autoworks. Andy and Gary- both full trained BMW/MINI technicians. They left Preston Hall/Cooper Teesside a year or so ago to set up on their own. I've had my e46 to them for various things. I've also sent friends and family to them and never heard a bad word back.

I'm moving upto gateshead this month so I might have to try one of the places already mentioned in the future.

Another vote for Dean at DW Motorworks. Had used Autobahn previously and they were fine but wasn't overly impressed with the outcome of the last job they did and it was a royal PITA to get up to Hexham, too. Dean has kept my E65 running like a peach for Mondeo money. The workshop itself is a bit 'backstreet' in appearance although I know Dean is looking at moving somewhere better and his knowledge of the cars never fails to astonish me. Cannot recommend him enough.
