My brother in law is joining a shooting trip with his lad and flying in to newcastle on sunday lunchtime (1.30 flight), my wife would like to take them for lunch somewhere before dropping them off in Alnwick. We havent really been up here very long and havent any places in mind, as we havent been out in that direction much.

Any tips from the locals?

I recommend 'The Badger' in Ponteland ( NE20 9ET ) it's quite close to the airport as well.

Ah the badger would be pretty handy - I always assumed it was part of the garden centre and so avoided it - is it ok?

the ridley arms looks nice - I am tempted to head up there. I guess the problem may be that its going to be 2pm before we clear the airport, it might be worth phoning round to secure a table.

Another vote for the Ridley Arms. You can't go wrong there.

The Anglers Arms in Longframlington is good, just went there last week. If however, you want a good old fashioned carvery, the Swan in Heddon-on-the-wall is good, better than a cheapo carvery, but not as expensive as a small pub.

Twin Farm near Kingston Park is pretty good. Not particularly cheap, though.

I go regularly to The Ridley, never had a poor meal yet. Although I think they've had a change in management??
Twin Farms is okay and part of the same chain as The Ridley
As a side note there seems to be a few people off here go and yet I've still never been spotted at either hehe

Not particularly quick either, sometimes well over an hour for grub to arrive

The Ridley Arms is good (or Wriggley Arms as my 5 year old calls it) or The Snowy Owl towards Cramlington.

Thank you all for recommending the 'Ridley Arms'. Went there for lunch today (after having a bloody cold day wandering along part of Hadrian's Wall) and the 'better half' and I enjoyed the meal.We will be definitely be eating there again.
