Good garage needed.
Discussion
As proud as I am of attempting all y own mechanics, my lack of facilities and tools lets me down whilst I live up here, therefore I am in the need of a good, trust worthy garage to possibly replace my clutch on the Tiv. Can anybody reccomend someone?
Obviously price is an important factor, but I need to know that I won't be ripped off.
Cheers

There is a great garage just down the road from me. Not a TVR specalist by any means but the owner is a knowledge chap and has helped me out with the Marlin and our other cars frequently, he also MOT's my bro-in-laws fathers cars (old Austins, Bentleys and stuff). It's the Globe Garage, Crawcrook btw.
HHC is another good bet up in Hexham but they'll cost a fair bit I'd assume.

ooo, there was an idea, Mawds (Alex with the Vixen) said there is a guy fully capable who just lives at the back of his house... It's near Darlo IIRC.
You'd probably be best speaking to someone like the Globe who will let you chat to them and look at the workshop - a lot of places I've been keep you to the "viewing area" which is pretty much useless..

Erm... Northallerton, actually.
Back on topic - yes, there's a guy works just behind me (small shed-type garage, single-handed - you get the idea), not a Tiv specialist, but knows what he's doing with practically everything on wheels as far as I can gather. Used to rally during the 70s, and now looks after a pretty serious hillclimbing wedge, most of which he seems to have rebuilt from scratch. When I took the Vixen round (when the diff was knackered) he'd ID'd all the parts (GT6/vitesse diff, with TR5 driveshafts) BEFORE I went back with the parts guide, and had it out & a new one in within a day, AND managed to rebuild the N/S rear hub assembly and repair the driveshafts whilst he was at it, all for £70.
Might be a bit of a drive, though (but a good one).
Haven't got his number on me at present, but email me if you want me to find out (it's only 100yds away)

Try R & P Woods in High Heaton. They aren't TVR specialists, but they do get several TVRs in for servicing (including mine) and I've seen at least one Griff in there for gearbox work.
High Heaton is good for me as I live in Heaton.
Mawds would very much appreciate the number although because I use the car everyday, speed is a priority, will also need some way of getting back home after I drop off the car.

I work at a garage. Well, not really - I really wanted to learn to work on cars, but at the time didn't have a 2nd car and didn't fancy 'learning by dong' on my only car. So I found a local garage that have taken me on as a kind of unofficial, voluntary apprentice at the weekends type thing .
They're not TVR, or performace car specialists or anything, but they are good and very reasonably priced. I've been impressed many times when I've been there and we've had some really annoying problem and they've taken on what should have been an easy job, run across a complication, spent all day doing it properly when there would have been some shortcut or half way measure that wouldn;t be apparent to the customer and then charging the customer the original price they would have paid even without the complications and extra time and effort.
They help me/do themselves all the work on my Wedge and my Corvette. They've just moved premises too and are about to start doing MOTs...I can't wait
Tyne View Garages, Mitre Place, South Shields. I think the number is 0191 454 5955.
I can vouch that they will do a decent job and will not rip you off.
I had strong opinion of back street garages, the usual 'oof, that piece of weatherstrip that's peeling away will cost you...probably a couple of days labour' type stuff, but that's totally changed since I've been spending my weekends there. And if you arrange it for a Saturday, I'll be there to supervise

Byff, Yes R & P Woods do have a rolling road. They set up quite a few of the local rally cars. Paul (he's the P in R & P Woods) knows his stuff. He's done quite a lot of work on my 400SE to help me fit an Emerald ECU. He's manufactured mounting brackets for the crankshaft pulley sensor and done some top end engine work too.
First post from a long time lurker. I need to get the nearside exhaust manifold gasket fixed on my Chimaera and have been thinking about using either TJ Motors in Boroughbridge or approaching Henry Bauer mentioned in this thread. Not having used either before I would appreciate any views or alternative suggestions in the Northallerton/Stokesley areas.
Thanks.
Thanks.
