Stag Do in Newcastle Upon Tyne - Help Required
Discussion
Afternoon PH Massive, I'm hoping to pick the collective wisdom to help finsh planning a stag do in Newcastle.
Karting, Painball and hotel near the quayside are all sorted - but need some help with a few other bits:
To try and keep Friday slightly lighter, I was going to deploy a tactical curry to slow the drinking a little. Therefore, a recommendation for reasonably priced curry house which will cather for 10 on a Friday night would be very welcome (within walking short distance of the Quayside would be a be ideal).
Also decent park/recreational area for some 5-a-side footy on the Saturday - or somewhere to play pool/snooker in case the weather is carp. I don't want to commit to anything (renting a pitch etc) in case people are a mess and don't want to do anything but sleep - hence the fairly flexible activities. However, any other suggestions for things to do on the cheap would also be very handy.
Any other tips or advice would be gratefully received, including places to go (and to avoid). I know from other similar threads we aren't going to get into the bars etc around Collingwood Street in a big group, and we are not doing the "tour t-shirts"/fancy dress routie, so we should have a chance of getting into some reasonable places.
Finally, can anyone recommend a "decent" nightclub, possibly somwhere where we could pre-arrange entry for 10 (or is that a laughable idea)?
Any help gratefully received!

What about a trip to Lord Hsrpol's, Bigg Market(?) for the groom to atempt a spot of curry hell? The hottest curry in the world, just the job for a stagg do I would have thought......
Here we go, Rupali, very nice there http://www.therupali.co.uk/Also on the Quayside dont forget to try Bar 38, Chase or Victoria 22's for the infamous Newcastle trebles. 3 treble vodkas for a fiver.
Edit: Also theres a couple of nice pubs near the train station: The Town Wall and The Fourth. Regards collingwood street (or the diamond strip) - I'm not sure about their door policies, I'm sure some of the bigger places will let you all in.

The best curry house in Newcastle in my humble opinion is Mrs Alis in Jesmond. http://www.mrs-alis.com/They will happily accommodate a big party, the prices are reasonable and the food is amazing. Get the butter chicken - it's to die for seriously.
It's not the closest to the quayside (about a mile, so a fair walk but a taxi will only be a few quid), so you might want a nearer option although a not too far post-curry stagger down Osborne Road puts you towards the many drinking establishments made famous by Geordie Shore, if that's your thing! Vujon is also fairly nice but might be a bit 'refined' for a huge gang of stag goers so you'd need to keep it down a bit - it is however just a short stagger away from the quayside. http://www.vujon.com/
Most of the other curry options in Newcastle are of the typical flock wallpaper/bhuna-and-a-pint-for-the-drunk-and-undemanding type. The best of which is probably Rupali - www.therupali.co.uk

Forget the quayside - for two real Geordie pubs go to Bar at the Brandling, in Brandling village between Jesmond and the city centre, and/or The North Terrace pub on Claremont Road. Also, try Venue on Market Street late on a Friday or Saturday.
Wouldn't do Venue on a Saturday, its a heavy rock/metal night. Friday used to be a student night, not sure waht it is now. Edited by timlongs on Tuesday 17th July 17:00
I was discussing curry houses with someone the other day. There is not too many in newcastle. Tandoori nights is my favourite though. Quite welcoming and close to the quayside. http://tandoorinightsnewcastle.com/contactus.html
Plenty of chinese around if you'd prefer, on Stowel street.
5 a side - have a look at eldon leisure. Indoor 5 a side + a few other activities. May be hard to get a court without booking though.
Spot white is the most well known pool bar but dont think i've been in before.
Of all bar areas in Newcastle, Jesmond is my favourite. Osbournes, Spy, Blanc etc.. Happy hour is normally on until 7.30pm so get into Osbournes around 6pm. Classier part of Newcastle TBH.
Night clubs - maybe i'm getting old but most are getting on not really the most desirable places to go. Most bars (inc collingwood street) are open until 2ish which is where I'd be happy to go.
Tiger tiger offer pre booking (VIP) things. Riverside is probably most popular and on quayside.
What date are coming up? There are local things coming up like olympic football matchs, horse racing etc...

MODS - Thanks for moving this!
It's this Friday (20th), so just trying to sort out a vague idea of where to go and what to do (and to book things that need booking), rather than going in blind.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far, I will take a look at the various links provided - keep them coming!!

If you must have a Bigg Market curry, The Rupali is the best place. The food isn't amazing, but it is a genuine venue with a hint of Viz about it. Get a plate of Curry Hell and try it after you've had your meal of choice. It's seriously hot, so get a few jugs of Cobra on standby! The Chinese food in Newcastle is better than the curry. Cheeky Duck and Nudo in the Stowell Street/Low Friar Street areas are great.
As for bars, Collingwood Street is a bit naff, but no moreso than the rest of the town. Split into small groups to get in there, as the doorstaff will turn big groups of lads and obvious stag parties away. The bars are much of a muchness there, Koos is probably the most entertaining of the lot but all pretty crap IMO. The nightclubs are a bit dire, Tiger Tiger is pretty naff and Liquid isn't much better (now called LQ or something like that).
The Quayside is similarly poor, Riverside is popular but it's very studenty so if you're an older bloke you'll stick out like a sore thumb. Jesmond is a decent enough place for a drink during the day.
Just remember to go out wearing smart shoes and head where seems best on the night, at least then you can never be knocked back because you're wearing trainers.
Places to avoid? The Bigg Market if you're not local, it can be a bit rough. Stag groups often go there wanting to see the real Newcastle and end up embroiled in punch ups. The bars are also pretty crap, worse if you're not into rave tunes.

Thanks again chaps ...
If you are walking to Jesmond from the Quayside, are there bar en-route? Just trying to figure out logistics and timings for eating etc.
Ben - do you know if Mrs Ali's Banquet is available all the time, tried calling but not got through to anyone yet? Sounds like a winner for the group if it is!

I'm not a big boozer so someone else might be able to answer you better but yes there would be places to stop, however it's a fair old walk. I'd go through town this way, as it takes you right through the centre of town towards Grey's Monument. If you are walking to Jesmond from the Quayside, are there bar en-route? Mrs Ali's is a good choice - it's open every night from 6 so try later on. My leaving doo was there and we had more than 10 so you'll be fine, plus everyone ordered something different, so we didn't make it easy for them!
Plenty of decent bars along Osborne Road, not far from Mrs Ali's.

This end of town does put you a long way from the Quayside though, especially if you're all smashed. It's a taxi ride back from here, really.

To be fair, you'd be more likely to be walking from Jesmond to the Quayside. Jesmond is busy earlier on but the bars shut early due to it being a residential area. The Quayside doesn't really pick up until later on in the evening, unless you're going to a pub like Offshore or Bob Trollops that can be packed early on. The quickest way to walk from the Quayside to Jesmond would probably be heading east along City Road past the Salvation Army hostel, North onto New Bridge Street and then North along Clarence Street and Stoddart Street into Jesmond. The pros of this route are this it is quick, though there are no bars en route. I would suggest 20-25 mins for this trek.
You could go up through the city centre, stopping at the Bacchus on Pilgrim Street (great beers here) and then along John Dobson Street, east along Sandyford Road, stopping at As You Like It (a very popular place for food and drink, easy to miss when walking by), before turning left onto Osborne Terrace and following that across Jesmond Road onto Osborne Road proper. This would probably take a little longer, though not by much and there is more to see on the way, I suppose.
I would decide on a plan for the night out before you go out as it seems people can get lost in the city centre quite easily, especially around the Bigg Market. It's not really hard to navigate about, but pick a landmark where you can meet if your group gets split up. The KFC at the top of the Bigg Market (outside Bambu) would probably be a decent place to meet as it's pretty much slap bang in the middle of the major drinking area (encompassing The Gate, Bigg Market, Collingwood Street and slightly further out to Neville Street/the scene/the Quayside).
