Never seen rain like it in this country, my garage was flooded and my car was sitting in about 6 inches of water, I was panicking as I couldn't move it as the water was even deeper on the road.I have just seen a house on the news that I renovated and sold last year under about 2 feet of water, feel a bit gutted for the family that bought it.
It was pretty mad, it took me 3 and a half hours to get from ashington to benton, and my wife managed to get home just after 10pm having collected the kids from school in Gosforth at 4pm.
Whats the chances of roads being back to normal in the morning? I need to go to hartlepool tomorrow

I live 950 feet above sea level, thought i would never flood. My entire back/front gardens were flooded upto about an inch of coming through the doors. Both of my neighbours were too, one unfortunately had their house flooded.
Its all because the building site at the rear of my house have partially done ground works and not considered drainage at all, the site manager admitted it to my neighbour on the phone. They are coming around tomorrow to discuss putting things right at their expense.
Luckily i think i have escaped with a knackered dog kennel and run as the wooden floor is now sodden, at one point the water was going through the air bricks which are below my damp course, Anyone know if this is likely to cause me problems in future or can i just forget about it?

Had a phone call from my Dad who was on his way back to Scotland after a short break in London with his wife.
The train stopped at Newcastle - then returned down south without them on it. They were pretty much abandoned on the platform due to an "Act of God", them and about 6000 other people apparently. They have a hotel about 20 minutes out of town - and are not sure whether a train northbound is a valid (but busy) option in the morning. The other option of course being - hire a car, get over to the west coast and up the M74...
It's been lashing it down in Cumbria all day, and I left London in bright sunshine and +30C with it cooling off gradually as I drove back up north but it was a lovely evening all the way up...
Simes.

It really was something, my office has panoramic views over the tyne, bridge, gateshead, quayside areas, and the lightening was something else. Not fun being in one of the highest office blocks with a 500 foot ex-Tyne-Tees transmitter aerial strapped to the roof.
Also made it home in one piece in the Lotus, no idea how, but made it. Car was trying its best to cut out, but kept it going keeping the revs up higher than normal.

It was bad on Teeside too, worst rain ive ever tried to drive in was doing 20mph on a19 on way home, however clearly much much worse just up the road. Seeing some of the videos on the net cant imagine being in it.
Maybes our climate has officially shifted to a tropical one...............

After battling the water back as much as possible I went to see the damage on our estate. I ended up taxiing a few people on and off the estate.... http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bOc-sXIeXqA notice the responsible parents pulling their children out of the flood water and sewage.
A bit worse for some peeps down south..............

The term "I've never seen rain like it" is overused imo, but I think yesterday really warrants it's use. Driving home from work was a nightmare yesterday, almost surreal seeing everything fairly back to normal today, they didn't look like the same roads I was practically swimming down yesterday.

Nightmare mate, where do they live? A fair few houses in Kingston Park seemed affected too, those with sloping down drives, agree with Mastadon literally never seen rain like it, Ever.Gassing Station | North East | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
