Just been down Whitburn and I can confirm that there is a new Truvelo speed camera sited just past Latimers garage.

It's mounted in the center of the road and takes your picture as you head towards it. It's also sited very close to the highway and if a volunteer could drive down there with a JCB, I'm sure the bucket could accidently catch the camera without even having to mount the kerb.

Does anyone have a JCB available?

just outside the house of an old girlfriend of mine...in all fairness, it's a 30 zone and there are lots of charvas giving it large down that piece of road so although I dislike them, this one seems to have been sited according to the rules.

It is sited as per the rules and my post was supposed to be more for information than anything else.

It's just crying out to get whacked - I must take a picture of it before someone does it accidently. It sticks right out into the carraigeway.

I'd rather have a speed camera over speed humps anyday, but of course I don't want to see either on our roads - you justify one, you've justified them all.

Hang on a minute - isn't Seaham in Durham? Or has it 'moved' to Tyne and Wear recently?

Durham doesn't (or is that didn't????? ) use static speed cameras. And Paul Garvin is getting a load of flak for it.

I am with Byff - accept one, accept the lot. No thanks - there are lots of sensible ways to catch or deter dangerous drivers. Speed cameras are not one of them.

Who mentioned Seaham

Whitburn is on the Sunderland/South Shields border, making it firmly in Tyne & Wear. Sunderland is spending bucket loads on camera's and see them as the new saviour

meh, the way I'm looking at it is I'll soon have a TT99 but no SP30's... they're wiped when you get a ban through totting aren't they?

or is it just the SP that got you banned is wiped?

this location IS NOT in the most current road angel update either - be wary people... the inductives are about 15ft infront of the camera so there is time to slow down, shame there's no signs saying "speed camera" anywhere like...

and thanks for the welcome byff

Oh, SeaBURN. Never mind. I vote we expand Durhams borders to include all of the north east anyway...
