Medomsley village is good for me from a work point of view and I have seen a house I like in my budget in a little estate across the road from the pubs, does anyone here live there or have any issues I should be aware before I put an offer in ? I have not been able to find anything adverse on the net.

Thanks in advance

I lived just down the road for 25 years and had several family and (when I was at school) mates that lived in the village. Was always a safe place to be and hang out without getting into any bother with plenty of open space out the back of the village. There's a few quite decent sized detached houses being built/ gone up recently at one side and an estate of (fairly) new builds opposite the entrance to 'The Dene'. A couple of smallish village pubs, 1 or 2 newsagents and a primary school. Oh and I've seen a PH stickered white Integra type R parked on the main road through a few times aswell,so there might just be a fellow Ph'er in the vicinity. If we're thinking of the same group of houses, one of them was on something like 'A place in the sun' a while back!
This has probably been no help whatsoever but just my 2p's worth!

Thanks md.

It seems a nice area to me, we have looked at over 10 houses (as I need to move north from Harrogate for work reasons) and this house is the best we have seen and the village seems OK and easy to commute from.

As I cant find anything on the net to worry about I though I would ask as I am due to put a bid in tomorrow(Mon) so thanks for your comments.

I live about 2 miles or so away from medomsley and as far as I know its a fairly quiet place with no real issues. I often nip in to the royal oak for a bite of tea. They do 2 simple meals for about 9 quid which is cheap enough to render cooking at home pointless.

First off well done to England !!

I am looking forward to trying the pubs as I have never lived so near one before, could be dangerous as I will be working from home.

Crown and crossed swords in shotley bridge about 2 miles away is a favourite haunt of mine, lets just say it has character! The locals are a friendly enough bunch though!

If you ever get in and see a badly behaved black lab, it will probably be me telling him off every 30 seconds.

Congrats on the house. It wasn't one of those 2 for sale in hunters close was it? I've been thinking of buying one for a while.
If you see me about give me a wave. I drink in the miners the oak is crap.

ive seen that dog a few times, dont recall it being told off mind ;-)

you have a half decent selection of good pubs around you there to be fair. Miners was never a bad pub although a few years since ive been in. you also have the derwent walk inn which is one of my 2 usual haunts for now, the other being the cricketers in black hill.

Just do yourself a favour, give the consett bars a very wide berth come the weekends.

Not all the consett bars, the Grey Horse is good all the time, especially if you like a real ale or two. No food on offer though. Its normally a toss up between there and the crown for me. The crown is further and at the bottom of a bloody big hill though so recently its been the grey horse more often than not.

The travellers rest is just about palateble too, alright if you want a bit of tea, no good for posh meals though. The cricketers is actually the closest pub to me but its a bit devoid of atmosphere during the week which tends to be when i get the chance to nip out for a few.

There was actually an item on the local tv news a few months ago where a medomsley resident was complaining about broadband speed. Unfortunately i cannot remeber the end of the item just the fact the bloke was wearing a hideous piano key tie throughout.
