Hi Guys,

I am looking at building a conservatory on the back of my house in Birtley. It is a commercial property and is in a conservation area. Does anyone have any freinds who work for gateshead plannng or experience of getting planning permission through in a similar circumstance because i am hitting brick wall all the time?

It really is a pain and we are pretty desperate for the conservatory as we are running out of space...!

Not Gateshead, but in Newcastle when we needed planning permission for our conny we found the easiest and quickest thing was to make an appointment with the planning permission department at Newcastle council civic centre, and personally attend and walk through the plans to get approval. Doing it by post just wasn't getting anywhere.

Also note we had a suspicion the council were selling our details on, as we were harassed with sales calls from local builders in the area, just after planning was given the go ahead.

Like Sean says a planning meeting with the local council will be the quickest way forward

Cheers for that...i shall get as much info together, drawings, plans, proposed building work and try to arrange a meeting with them.

I would just build the conservatory but have just read on the internet that you could be fined, sent to prison or both if you do not get planning permission.

The annoying thing is the houses behind us are built on land that used to belong to our home and they dont require planning permission....!

Its never easy....!

Thanks for the advice guys....

Local builders continually check the planning applications which has your address on it. That's how they know where you are; your information is in the public domain.

The council do not sell on people's details.

Gateshead council want posted plans first, after which you can arrange an appointment.

Thanks for all the replies.

I have got someone from here who is going to do a proper survey in a couple of weeks and he has loads of experience with local councils and planning applications so hopefully it will all be sorted soon.

Cheers
