My oil pressure line cracked yesterday afternoon, depositing oil all over the driveway. These things never happen at a convenient time.

I need to source a small brass olive to repair the compression joint in the oil pressure line, which had enough spare to allow me to cut out the broken section of 4(ish)mm pipe. On a sunday this is going to be fun! my first thought is cycle shops, anyone got any better ideas (or even better a possible olive in their toolbox)

heres a pic of the broken pipe

Try pirteks on the TVTE or any good hydraulic hose specialist.

other option is to replace both ends and fit a new aeroquip hose.

It looks like a 6mm olive to me, if you can't get hold of one i would suggest the following:

Use the flat of a pair of pliers or eagle beaks, and gently, a little bit at a time squeeze the olive whilst turning it, this should stretch the olive just enough to get it off the pipe. If you don't damage it you can reuse it.

Its worth a try.

Cheers chaps, the pipe measures just shy of 5mm, I guess it must be 3/16". unfortunately the pipe broke completely whilst trying to gently remove the old olive.

A brief tour on anywhere that might be open in Newcastle yielded minimal results, I have in my hand a 5mm olive from a bike shop, is is a little loose in fitting, do you reckon I could use a bit of pfte tape to big up my pipe so that the fit is a bit snugger.

I have just discovered that storrar's on coast road may have olives of 3/16 in brass, but they aren't open today

I wouldn't recommend it, if you are a member of the AA homestart it might be worth giving them a call.
