Evening all.

I'm planning a stag party to Newcastle and was wondering if anyone can recommend digs for around 15 lads?

Also be interested to hear where the best places to go are and any nonsense we can get up to while we're there?

If it's not too late try the premier inn on the quayside.Next to all the bars down the quayside pitcher and piano to start the afternoon.Work your way up the hill towards the city centre...few strip clubs on the way.Turn left towards central station and you've got the diamond strip where you can party geordie shore style. Also try the gate complex where theres bars indoors and aspers casino.Tiger tiger next door, sam jacks, the mushroom bar, city vaults, blue bamboo the list goes on.Just ask anyone when your out and about we're all friendly enough.

Accomodation to try would be the Juries Inn on Scotswood Road, and the Premier Inn at either the Quayside or Newbridge Street. Newbridge Street will probably be a little cheaper. Whatever you do, don't mess around in the hotel. My friends in the police are regularly going to hotels in the night and overseering the hotel staff throwing out stag and hen parties with no refunds offered, and often a fine on top! The accomodation is cheap but a tad rough and ready in places. The Newbridge Hotel is a little scabby but it's bang in the city centre and very cheap. The majority of bars in the city centre are within 2 or 3 minutes walk from it's front door. The Formula One hotel in Kingston Park is also cheap but it's a taxi ride out of the city centre. The Waterside Hotel at the Quayside is also ok. Avoid the Tyne Hotel.

As for things to do during the day, you'll have to be creative. There is go-kart in Dunston and paintballing in Cramlington, both good fun but a taxi ride out of the city. It's really more a night time city for partying. There are plenty of strip clubs, and plenty of bars. If you want to drink and relax during the day, try Osborne Road in Jesmond.

The Quayside has pretty much died a death these past few years since bars started opening on Collingwood Street. It's getting a little busier now with Riverside nightclub, which is very student-y. Collingwood Street is supposedly the glamorous side of Newcastle nightlife but it's been getting rougher and rougher for a while. Beware that the bars on Collingwood Street don't tend to like stag and hen parties. Anyone in fancy dress or wearing a stag t-shirt will be turned away at the door. At the other end of the Spectrum is the Bigg Market. Long enshrined in Geordie culture but in truth it's an awful place. Rough bars, boy racers and dodgy takeaways. Have a beer there if you must but avoid the Koh-i-Noor curry house. It's popular as it's open until late but the owner was recently fined by the council for the shocking hygiene standards in there.

The Gate is alright, some bars are a bit rowdy but some are ok. The bouncers at Mood are known for being heavy handed. Newgate Street isn't much good. Tiger Tiger is, in my estimation, ste. Idols and Babylon are also pants and Sinners is a real pit of despair. The thing with the town is that all the bars are very close together. Even walking from the Quayside to The Gate would take about 10 minutes without dawdling.

Things to remember is that on weekend nights the police patrol on foot as well as in cars, something which many people aren't used to seeing their local police doing. Great if you want to avoid being a victim of crime but they are swift to intervene when trouble starts, so if there is a 'loud' one in your group make sure he keeps his head down. Also, learn the way back to your hotel if you're staying in the city centre. Many taxi drivers will refuse small fares and whilst you won't be stranded, you could be stuck waiting until someone is able to navigate your way back.

Just to point out, if you stop at the Jury's Inn, you're right in the centre of the "pink triangle" so if you want to fall out of the hotel bar/room into another bar, it'll be a gay bar, which might not be suited to some of your party members tastes. Not too far to central station or other pubs like the ones around the O2 academy etc though.

They're all much of a muchness in terms of what you actually get. The Jurys Inn isn't a bad location in that it's a five minute walk to Collingwood Street and the Bigg Market, which I suppose you would consider the centre of town on a night out. If you don't want to go to the gay bars then you're not far from the rest of the bars and clubs. The Jurys Inn is probably slightly more upmarket than the Premier Inn and Travelodge accomodation with's marble entrance.

The quayside premier in is downhill of the good bars, so if you want to walk up into town you're faced with a quick slog up Dean Street or The Side. There are also a couple of hostels in the city centre. Avoid the Tyne Hotel, but the Albatross Backpacker's Hostel on Grainger Street and the Euro Hostel on Carliol Square seem popular. The Euro Hostel is next to the town's best strip club, but it's a nightmare to find when drunk as it's down a fairly dingy, non-descript street next to a disused fire station.

If you are looking to party late, past club closing at 2/3AM then you might find some fun at Empress on The Side. It's open until 6AM once a month on a saturday night and the gay clubs close around 5AM. After the clubs close I would go to Aspers Casino in The Gate. You can get in by going round the back of The Gate onto Stowell Street (Chinatown) and going in there. They used to do an all night buffet but I think they may have packed that in. Still, you can enjoy a drink and a game with friends. Much better than being in a club on a late licence. Clubbing at 5AM is not a pretty sight.

These a couple of hotels right on the Gateshead side of the millenium bridge now, might be a bit cheaper? and still close to town centre.

If its just somewhere to get your head down when you're pissed, best place is albatross backpackers hostel on grainger street. It's near the station. It's clean, secure, cheap and to be fair, much better accommodation than I was expecting for the price. It's well under £20 each from memory. If there's 15 of you, you'll all be able to share one or two rooms.
