Just heard that the ford has now been shut for good.Although it had been closed off for a while todays new indicates thats its now a permanent closure.
I used to often enjoy driving down Crawleyside bank then through the forge as it made a good feature to a nice Sunday drive.

Just drove past yesterday and they even have signs saying stepping stones closed to pedestrians or words to that effect.

I have fond memories of ploughing through in my Mini when I was 17 and a few years later, a
mate almost getting his Carlton GSI swept away when it was far too dangerous to cross laugh

Front end dipped in, engine cut out, footwells started to fill up with water, no idea to this day how it got out, I was too busy laughing so didn't see.

Can't even use the stepping stones! Now that really is taking the piss!
I always took the long way round in a car as I don't see the point in causing myself unnecesary grief but it should be available for those with suitable vehicles.
So what's the next target for the h&s Gestapo ? The holy island causeway, single track roads, soft top cars, motorbikes?

Last December & went thro the Fords at both Westgate & St Johns chapel & the Westgate one was a lot deeper than the one at Stanhope & they remain open.

Health & safety gone mad.

There is signs up telling not to use the stones but was there last sunday and you couldn't get near them for kids and dads!
