Hi all, I currently live in the longbenton area and seen a house in Backworth we like. Like the idea of a place with a village feel, rolling fields behind the house and paths for biking and walking in the summer but at the same time only 15min brisk walk from the metro station.

However, I looked at the police.uk website and it shows alot of reports for the small cul-de-sac we are looking at - I cant believe them to be true. The data is completly in conflict with everyone Ive spoken to (including the local news agent, local police, current owner)who say its a quiet area where very little happens so I was hoping their would be some friendly locals on here to provide another perspective.

Thanks

Andy

I always thought it was a fairly quiet little place, decent access to the A19 too. There is a good mountaineering shop there too, if you're into that sort of thing. I would have thought it much quieter than Long Benton, as far as policing goes. That said, if there are a couple of households in a street that don't get on (especially a cul-de-sac where there is less chance of escape!) they will easily boost the stats as far as crime and antisocial behaviour goes, which could be what is causing the spike on the police website.

I'm interested in Backworth, if there is any negatives to living there let me know also. Looking at buying either later this year or into next.

Will let you know. I wish they'd never wasted £300k of our money on that website. Just checked my mates street and it looks like its part of the Basra strip when in reality its quiet.

Ive never eaten chinese since I had similar experience a few years ago from a one in south gosforth.

I was reading about the scrapyard and apparantly they dont allow you to go in and strip bits off the cars anymore - health n safety brigade put an end to it frown

I lived there in the early 90's in the small estate built on the pit (behing working mens club - Claverley Drive)I almost said new estate but that doesn't sound right when 20 years ago. Was quiet back then.

Seems alright - it has a 'are you local' feel to some of it thou, people have lived their forever in the older streets at least, ive spent a fair bit of time round the area, the little country road that goes from backworth to earsdon is the only real highlight smile.

I also used to live in Claverly Drive, corner 2 bed house, 1986-1991

I loved living there and never had any problems. It suited me at the time as it have an off road bike which I rode on the tracks and pits smile

Seaton Delaval and Seghill both look really nice, but scarred by a mahoosive Land fill site, which has been in and out of the news:

http://www.journallive.co.uk/north-east-news/today...

"...Residents’ objections followed decades of exposure to smell, flies, vermin, traffic, litter and risk to health – the reasons why 200 people were said to be in the process of taking legal action against Sita..."

We were looking at a barn conversion in Seghill until realising beyond a line of trees was the above.

I used to go out with a girl from Annitsford, every summer if it was hot and there was a breeze blowing in from the coast you could smell to rubbish tip a the top end of Annitsford, next to the Shell garage. I drove through Seghill in my MX5 on a still, warm day last year with the roof down and the air was quite thick with that rubbishy smell. All the same though, it's a nice enough area. Got friends and colleagues in Seaton Delaval and Backworth though I've never heard of them complain of the smell from the Seghill tip.
