I'm heading up to the north of England this evening for a couple of nights and was wondering if there are many good restaurants in Durham?

Never eaten there myself but I've only ever heard good reports about Numjai - if you like Thai food.

Numjai used to be very good but closed had closed down last time I tried to go there. Fat Buddha near Gala Theatre is good or Zen near the Court. Should be ok midweek but you'll struggle to get in anywhere at the weekend without booking.

Bistro 21 - highly recommended.
Knights, (at the Kings Lodge Hotel)(inc champagne & oyster bar)
Hollathans

Numjai has changed it's name now, but same place and still Thai.

Fat Buddha is Asian Fusion.

All are good!

I'd never heard of Finbarrs so just googled it.

I think Fat Budda has gone downhill recently & Zen knocks spots off it

I also hear goods reports of this place http://www.alishaandurham.com/

If you have a big budget in mind this place is well worth a look http://gourmet-spot.co.uk/
