I have gone down the Kumho 195 width tyres on my vx220 to replace the std 175 width. Now i know they will go on the rims as plenty of other forum vx220.org.uk members have managed to get them on, and i know there meant to be a bugger to get on.

However tonight my friendly tyre fitter has tried and tried to get them on and failed. Now i have 2 tyres which seem not to want to go on the wheels.

Do any of you have any tips as to how to get the tyres on the rims?

Or does anyone know a friendly tyre fitter in North west Durham or the Newcastle/Gateshead/Washington area who might have the skills or experience on other vx220's to get the buggers fitted?

I could sort it. Not something I normally get involved in but if you're really stuck give me a shout.

What exactly was the issue he was having? I'm struggling to understand how it could be a problem.

I've used a guy called Peter Kerr who has a mobile tyre fitting business (Tyres2u) based at Dipton. He's an enthusiast as well and knows his stuff. Not specifically for a VX220 but might be worth a call. 07976 457869

I wasnt there when he was trying as the girlfriend took the car. The problem is 195 tyres are basically the very maximum size a 5.5 inch wheel can take. He just couldnt get the tyres mounted on the rim.The standard tyres are 175 width but bloody expensive!

I know it is possible as several others have done the same however often with a little difficulty.

Can't see it being an issue with a decent tyre machine.

Another vote for getting Peter to have a look at it.

I miss my VX220. Hope yours is going well, and superb choice with the Kumhos. They last longer than the Bridgies too smile

the vx has not given me 1 second of bother in the last 13 months. It starts first time every time even if it has been stood for s few weeks.

I only wish my scirocco had been half as relaible, instead its engine died and needed a replacement after 13000 miles.

Well if you need a hand working on it, just let me know. I had a VX for 6 years and have pretty much done every job known to man on them!
