Ive just bought a 968 and im looking for a specialist to service it. I dont want to use the dealer at Silverlink so id appreciate a bit of advice on other local options.

Cheers

The only other option is Tom Fergusons in Gateshead.

If you join PCGB you get preferential rates on parts and labour at OPCs and it's well worth it.

I've got a 944 and do everything on it myself, the cars are very easy to work on. What needs doing on it, I'd be happy to take a look/suggest somewhere/help out as needed?

Thanks for the info. I actually dont pick it up for another couple of weeks and initially i want a full inspection. Its a 93 cabriolet tiptronic, something ive always wanted but it took me ages to find one. It has excellent history but for my own peace of mind i want it fully checked out, i couldnt do that before i committed to buy as im in the Middle East working.

Yup, redline racing in Teesside and very well thought of by all accounts.

Do a search on here for the Gateshead specialist mentioned above. Not all comments are favourable.

Yet to hear anything but high praise for Redline in Teeside Porsche wise. The stuff they've done for me has been top notch (not Porsche related).

Stockton - the owner drinks in my Local. No experience of them personally, but they did run Maxi Jazz's car for him when he was racing in the C-Cup so obviously know their stuff.

There's always Specialists in Malton too - combine a run out down the TT.

Cheers guys, I think I will give the specialist in Gateshead a go first and see how it goes, for no other reason than he's far closer than the others mentioned.

Evening JP,
you really need to dig up the last thread on here by a guy in your position.
He tried Tom Ferguson with pretty shocking results. There are 2 sides to every story but....

If you can't be arsed to travel then TF is your only option. I just hope you have deep pockets.

As I say on all these type of threads I use Jamie Nelson, Nelson Porsche, Stockton. Good mate of mine now and has helped me run my 964 Turbo on a very sensible budget.

You just have to take your car down on a Saturday, or something, get a lift back and go back the following Saturday. Well, you don't have to but that's all I ever do.

TF was always quoting me 3 times what Jamie was and that was in the early days where I was just a customer rather than a mate (to Jamie, not TF).

Anyway, good luck. Great cars the 968s!

Edited to add, here it is -

I appreciate the post Mark. TF will be doing me a full in-depth inspection and report on the car. Once I have that I will get a price for any work required and will also give your mate a call in Stockton. Getting back and forth to sunny Teesside isn't much of a problem really so if his price is decent i will try him out as you suggest. I will post on how it goes.

Cheers

Although TF is the only specialist in Newcastle, I've never used him. I had every intention of getting them to inspect my car and they quoted for this and other work, ridiculous prices and not a very good attitude at all. I'm not alone in finding that either, I can reel off several bad experiences from friends.

With PCGB discount, OPC rates are only about 10% more than TF too.

If there's anything that needs doing and is beyond my capabilities I use Imperial Racing in Jesmond. Proper old-school garage down a backstreet, the owner Doug really knows his stuff. They look after RS4George's Atom too and he pointed me in their direction.

No probs JP,
You may find Tom Fergusons to be the best place ever (but I doubt it hehe ). Some people must though, as he's still there. You'll obviously be able to make up your own mind about the price/service you receive.

Suck it and see, as they say but, yes let us know how you get on. smile

I've just made an appointment with the OPC at Silverlink. They will do me an inspection and report on the car for...... FREE!!!

I contacted them via their website and they sent me an email asking me to call their service advisor, which I did, and I simply explained what I wanted and they invited me to book the car in with them for a free inspection.

It goes in on 30th August, I will post the outcome.

Great news! OPC should always be your first port of call, especially for little odds and ends as they're generally much cheaper than elsewhere.

Was it Ged you spoke too?

When I had the Boxster it was due a 40,000 mile service. TF was as expensive as the dealer so its always work giving the dealer a bell as well, tell them you have had a good price from an indy and they may try to match it

Hi

I tried to avoid Silverlink OPC for ages in fear of a huge bill. However when I had to go to them a few months ago (noone else could find the fault I had developed on my ABS/PSM) I found them to be very reasonable.

If you choose to go for Tom Ferguson email me and I will tell you my opinion.

Redline are supposed to be very good and Malton helped me out at a car show a few years back so there probably very good if that was anything to go by.

david raper @ car-tech & care http://www.car-techandcare.co.uk/ ( based at Brompton on Swale just south of Scotch Corner) is worth travelling to. Ex Redline Racing & currently look after a few 968's in the PCGB championship
