Hello Guys,

I have heard alot of mixed reviews about my 3 closest dive centres in the northeast.

Really looking in to learning and would like to know first hand what people think of Deepblue in Whitley bay, AquaNorth on the Coast road and the Dive Centre in Newcastle

2 people I know are qualified to instructor level - 1 at Deepblue and the other at AquaNorth and both have told me not to go to the other although these people don’t actually know each other.

So then what are your recommendations? Any other centres im not aware of then again please fill me in.

Thanks.

The mrs and I did our Padi Open Water at Aquanorth after first having a try dive with BSAC. Without getting into the old rivalry we found the PADI training approach to suit our needs better.

It was over 10 years ago now but Aquanorth were a bit of a mixed bag. The owner was a nice chap but they had one instructor who was incredibly arrogant and who we took an instant dislike to. Fortunately he only did one or two pool sessions with us. We did most of our training with a chap called Phil and he was superb - very patient, conscientious and overall a top bloke. Don't know if he still teaches there though. We found some of the instructor staff - including the tosser mentioned above - to be a bit cliquey and they seemed to treat it as a social club for whom the students were a bit of an inconvenience. As I say though all this was years ago and things will likely have moved on.

Best thing is to go and do a few try-outs and see who you like the look of.
