Motorsport coverage in newspapers - let me have your views
Discussion
Dear all,
I'm the motoring editor of The Northern Echo and I'm re-examining our coverage of all things on two and four wheels.
One of the beefs I have is the lacklustre coverage motorsports gets at the moment.
We have tried to improve things with BTCC and Superbike supplements this season, with a third to come shortly.
If any of you read the Echo please let me know if you'd like more, or think I'd be wasting my time.
On a related note would a regular column for classic car clubs be something you'd read?

I'd be interested in that. A good motoring supplement would attracted advertising revenue from North East dealers and as such should be a selling point to your bosses. What puts many people off (me included) tabloid motoring sections is often who writes for it, e.g. a certain tall Southerner with curly hair who spouts complete drivel for one of the national newspapers. It needs someone who knows what they are talking about if it isn't to drop to that standard. Perhaps a guest writer from the various sections on here might like to write about their car with a few pics. A classic section could include details of club meetings with the odd photo. Should appeal to quite a wide audience I'd imagine.
I like the idea of a guest columnist. I could give over say 300 words for a quick review (Why I love my car... etc) and a picture.
But I'd only want to do it if enough people were prepared to have a go.
Naturally, this being regional newspapers, I couldn't pay - but your words of wisdom would be published bringing local celebrity and the envy of all your mates (perhaps).
Wonder if anyone else would be prepared to give it a go.
