I was heading back from a quick trip to Tesco when some ar53pipe came tear-arsing the other way down Junction Road on a white sports bike. Apart from the helmet he was clearly inadequately dressed in the event that he'd parted company from the machine, which event almost transpired as a car pulling out of a side road was (unsurprisingly) not expecting a 70mph missile (my estimate) appearing in a 30 limit.

I was in the middle of thinking 'Ah well, he'll probably either kill himself or win the TT' when, two cars later, a black Audi (convertible I think) appears on my side of the road in the process of overtaking two law-abiding motorists. Much flashing of headlamps was, I presume, his way of telling me that I had no right ot be there rolleyes I think it's fair to say that V6 AMO, you are a tw at.

Mentally shaking my head in disbelief, my mood was somewhat lifted by the appearance of a Police Focus, lights and sirens aplenty, giving it large potatoes in evident pursuit. Both I and the other vehicles were more than happy to move ove and let the BiB through, one can only hope that at least one of the miscreants gets a good bumming with a dry cactus.

Obviously I don't know all the facts: it may be that the bike was nicked and the Audi was the rightful owner in hot pursuit. Or the two parties might have been racing on the public highway. Or perhaps the Audi is an unmarked Plod - though the 'private' plate and lack of blue lights would suggest otherwise.

Only ever saw one police chase myself on Durham Road in Darlington. Anyone who knows it, knows how heavy the traffic gets in the town. I could clearly see the car coming up and it was in heavy traffic and I was half tempted to park my car in the middle of the road so he couldn't get past... although I have no idea what were to happen to me if he plowed into me. I was thinking i'd either get a medal or a royal bking from the plod. My brain told me to stay out of it as no doubt the police would have caught him anyway. Amazing what thought you can accomplish in 5 seconds.
