Ah yes, my specialist subject - Out of the way pubs within a half hour drive of Newcastle (or further if required). Here are a couple off the top of my head, but further investigation/recce can be provided.

- The Waggon - On A696 3 miles north of Ponteland
- The Highlander - On A696 4 miles north of Ponteland
- The Badger - A696 next to Ponteland and Airport (possibly a little conspicuous)
- The Plough Inn - Stamfordham Rd (B6324) 2 miles before Stamfordham
- The Robin Hood Inn - Military Road (B6318) 2 miles after Harlow Hill

All these have decent sized car parks. When were you thinking of?

The Beamish Mary is a little out of the way and has a reasonable car park.

What is wrong with Dalton Lodge? Wasn't too far for either party and was a decent enough venue I thought, just a shame it was on the A19 not a nice drive...

Hmm, it's a while since I've been there, either my memory is failing or they've lost the car park.
Oh well, there's always the pub at the end of my street, I KNOW that has loads of parking!

Hang on, memory coming back in stages.
Yes, the Beamish Mary has bugger all parking.
The pub I was thinking about does, the Shephard and Shephardess, the other side of the road near the museum entrance.
The pubs not as good as the Mary, but it's good enough.

Just up from those two pubs towards Stanley, you have the "Hilltop" which has a large car-park and very easy to find from the A1 and chester-le-street. I'm at Stanley so can advise on any pubs around here including Consett!

One of my suggestions would be 'The Wellington' at Riding Mill, just east of Corbridge on the A695.

Food is very good, tables and chairs outside for that lovely sunny evening, car parking is very safe.

Cheers,
Ian.

That's a long trek for me. 145 mile round trip. If I'm to join you it'll need to be futher south, say in the Durham area.

My dad suggested Ramside Hall, nice place but a bit on the pricey side...

Map here

Just rang them and they have a bar/cafe, no need to book and it's pretty central... could be good for photos (guess hooning is out of order however).

the welly is a good choice, carpark is large but it gets very busy and they won't book tables IIRC. food has gone downhill slightly but still passable as a gastropub and the beer is nice...plus, 2 of the waitresses are really...er nevermind..
