Spotted@ fireball over Kielder 11:45pm fri eve
Discussion
Was camping on the Scottish Border nr Newcastleton on fri eve and while me and a mate were watching a satelite drift northwards in the east sky, a massive fireball streaked south eastwards overhead - towards hexham. 5 or 6 of us saw it and having seen many many shooting stars before, this was without doubt the biggest thing i have seen.
White head with long blue/white tail, yellow sparks and seemed to be spinning as the tail wobbled in a slight zigzag.
Looked like a flare (have seen flares beofre while sailing) but was travelling far too quick. Must have covered 4 or 5 handspans at arms length in 2 seconds.
Looking at google maps i estimate it was traveling parrallel with a line drawn from Glasgow to Newcastle. I also see that Kielder Observatory had an event on so perhaps someone there saw it too.
Needless to say - very coool.
