Wife has a 57 plate mini cooper-low milage and the engine management has flagged up with a "yellow" warning. This is the 2nd time, the first time was under warrenty. Car is out of warranty now so want to avoid B&W prices, any reccomendations in the Sunderland area and likely costs.

You could try Cliffs Service Station in Grangetown, I've never used them yet, but I've heard many recommendations from different folk who have.

Hi, might be worth having ago at fixing it yourself, a friend brought round a mini 2 with the engine light on, she only did short journeys, there was list of 6 faults showing on the reader so I reset them all and added some fuel system cleaner to the fuel tank, had to reset it 1 more time but after that it has been ok, oh nearly forgot,I warmed it up and gave it a good blast out.

Not sure if the fault codes will clear themself after the fault is not present for a number of engine starts, pity you are not in the teesside area as I would have cleared the codes for you.

The very same cliffs service station that work out of a backstreet lockup and decided to try and fix a family friends rear brake problem in a very odd manor.

Both of the rear drums on the car had siezed after the car had sat for a few months, out they came to the house and decided to attempt to release them by not removing the rear wheels and releasing the shoes, cleaning up the drums and lubricating the relevant parts...... They tried to drive the car up and down the street leaving great big tyre marks over the driveway and road, over the neighbours drive and left the car there.

On return from the car owners work the car was found to have 2 flatspotted rear tyres, braeks still jammed on and a very stripey street with an extremely angry neighbour.

So they then refuse to admit liability but refund their callout charge. Rear brakes are fixed (properly this time) and cliffs service station are forced to pay for 2 new tyres AND a new clutch as they had burned it out trying to release the rear brakes.

Let them loose on anything technical? No thanks.

Thanks phoned cooper mini to see if there was any good will as car is low milage full mini service history and less ta 4 years old. Yes bring it in and we will charge you £78 to look at it.
Local garage is going to check the fault codes and will see what is showing and tak it from there.

Job sorted, new camshaft position switch, this the 2nd one needing changing one was changed under warrenty last year.
Local garage were spot on, ran a check on it while I waited, they tried re setting the fault but it popped up again on the 3rd. start. Ordered a new switch and fitted it next day while my wife waited.

Job done for just slightly more than Cooper Mini wanted just to run a diagnostic check.
