This seems to have massively slipped under a lot of radars. As of yesterday, the whole of the western extension has been binned.

There was a lot of moaning on various news channels (radio/net/TV) about the rise in train fares for commuters, but not a mention of the congestion zone change.

From my trip to the office today there are now a lot of redundant black poles lining the roads at the old entrance points!

I just love that arbitrary increase.

"Oh, let's just stick another couple of quid on it".

Had to pay the £10 yesterday to make a delivery on Weymouth Street - literally a few hundred yards inside the zone. Hate that.

Will still make my life easier as no more skirting round / through when required during the week. Rarely drive in what was the original zone anyway Mon-Fri so no complaints here!

Not happy. We live in the old Western Extension zone so got a 90% discount -ie paid £4 a week to travel in the zone. Now that the extension has gone we lose that discount.

You could always get a G-wiz so that you can travel in the zone for free. You never know you might even get one for your birthday if you don't behave.

I'm happy as I live just north of the extension and for me it's been a massive PITA. Now it's gone.....

Day one - I drove down Ladbroke Grove and visited a builders merchants I hadn't been to for 3 years.

Day two - I took my bike to the Bicycle workshop just off Portobello road I haven't used for three years.

Day three - I booked my Merc in for a service at BSG which I hadn't visited for, oh, three years......

Day four - I drove to the Heathrow office down Ladbroke Grove for the first time in, you guessed it, three years....

....and the next time I need to go to my local hospital for a scan or have to take my little one in for some attention from A&E or if my wife gives birth again I WON'T HAVE TO PAY THE FECKIN CHARGE!!!!!!!

Good isnt it. I drove from the office last night (near Battersea Park) over to Hammersmith via Sydney St / Kings Road / Fulham Road. I might be imagining it but the traffic is definitely less than before. Same amount of cars, spread out over a larger area.

I don't know about traffic volumes - just glad I can resume using the routes and visiting the haunts I was used to between 1989 when I moved into the area and 2007 or whenever when the extension went in.

Of course if I'd lived just inside it rather than just outside it I'd probably have had a different view....

I used to work for a research company which conducted the public perception research amongst people in london about the CCZ and the extension. At the time the western extension was just a proposal. Most people were against it. TFL instered questions into the research along the lines of would you prefer the western extension to go ahead or would you prefer to be shot in the head. Most people, to those questions, picked the objectivly lesser of the two evils. This was the basis on which it was claimed there was public support for it.

I am glad to see that this thing is finally gone. I'm absolutley amazed at the lack of press coverage.

I live just inside the zone, and am happy with the raise. It will keep out the Kensington and Chelsea tractor driving mob who popped in for lunch. There has been less traffic in the last 48 hours and the noise level is down. £10 is a lot of money but how many people actually need to drive into the centre of town during the day??

Now that the CCZ has become an emmisions zone rather than a "congestion" zone with giving a 100% discount to cars with less than 100g/km of CO2, this list of cars exempt now being vast:
http://www.greencarsite.co.uk/CONGESTION-CHARGE-EX...
Even at the charge of £10, with a travelcard being near enough the same price, the chioce would be to drive in. Where is the incentive if you own one of these cars to use public transport? There isn't one.So anyone who "needs" to drive in for business/work in a larger car/van has to stump up whatever increase it goes up by.

Its good and bad. I live right on the edge of the zone in Pimlico / St.James' Park and on the occasions I do need to use the car, its a slight annoyance but for £4 per week, its ok. I suppose its now £5 per week or £1 per day with the increase?
