Some help from you knowledgeable folk would be much appreciated - I have a puzzle I can't solve...

My partner needs to get from Maidenhead to Euston tommorow morning, by 9am. Not a problem - train from Maidenhead to Paddington takes 25 minutes, jump on a tube and you get to Euston, simple. The spanner in the works is that she has an irrational fear of tubes being blown up and gunmen blasting her at the stations (the mental is strong in this one)...SO...can anyone work out a way to get from Paddington (25 min train from Maidehead) to Euston, without using tubes or buses?! She doesn't mind walking but the walk from Paddington to where she's going (Gower St near Euston) takes 50 minutes and will probably mean she arrives late...so basically overground trains and upto around 20 minutes walking - any ideas?! My best idea so far is Paddington to Gower St by taxi - any ideas how much/how long that'd take at 8:30 in the morning?

Ta muchly in advance!

You've explained why no tubes, but why no buses?

Or use the lines on the London Overground network - Maidenhead to Clapham Junction to Willesden Junction to Euston.

Because buses got blown up 'last time', so those are now out of bounds too I'm afraid. As I said, the force is strong in this one! I can't find any overground trains to Euston from anywhere easily get-at-able from Maidenhead (eg Paddington), so seems like Maidenhead-Paddington then taxi to Euston may be the most likely - any ideas whether that's going to be ridiculously expensive or take longer than walking at that time?

Cheers!

Hmm... Probably best not to tell her that overground trains get blown up too!

Thanks, that's the kind of thing I've been looking at - problem is that Maidenhead to Clapham Junction alone takes 1hr30 mins and 3 stops, so wouldn't really be practical!

Have considered this but couldn't find much parking up there and think it would take bloody ages at that time!

Still thinking taxi from Paddington to Gower St (nr Euston) may be the best, but no idea on cost and time!

Cheers!

Haha - I did suggest a micro scooter or my old goped, neither of which were well received. As for therapy - I think you're right!

We're looking into Boris bikes which look like they may work (cycle from Paddington to Euston), but she'd have to sign up and wait for her pack to arrive etc!

Very true - it's the only method of her getting there that I'd actually really worry about!!

Anyone have any ideas on the duration/cost of a taxi from Paddington to Gower St (or Euston)?!

Cheers Matchbox - think that's the plan for next week but as she hasn't signed up with them yet she wouldn't have her 'key' or whatever she'd need to get a bike tommorow morning!

Your mileage may vary, and will probably be 50% sitting in traffic at rush hour

Thanks for that - even putting in 8:30am doesn't add too much time/money, could be a winner and then use the bikes next week!

Anyone know the route first-hand and able to tell me if that calculator is being overly optomistic suggesting 15 minutes and £12 at 8:30am Paddington to Euston?

Cheers guys!
