....when you only have a couple of hours spare, are in business attire, are financially mal-adjusted and can't drink (yet)?

You can't sit down, you can't stop to read a paper. It feels like if you're not on your way somewhere specific and you're not shopping, there is no room for you.

A man that is tired of London is tired of life.

stroll along the Embankment, stroll through one of the many free museums or galleries. Wander through Linclns Inn Fields, marvelling at the buildings, many of which have been there for hundreds of years.

Hope the sun comes out so you can ogle posh totty wearing not too much.

My mate came back from a long time abroad recently and went and sat near a local bus station to watch the world go by and ponder his existence. He got hassled by the police for loitering after about twenty minutes.

You are right, you are not allowed to just be somehwere not doing anything, it look suspicious to the authorities..

Go and sit in a cafe or riverside restaurant, have a coffee, a bite to eat and then go and have a look round some local sights.

Utter rubbish. Go and sit on a bench in Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, Trinty Square or Victoria Tower Gardens or any of the other many public spaces. Visit a museum, during the week most are quite quiet. I went to the Science Museum during the week a couple of years back and in parts we had the place to ourselves. There's loads of cafes in quiet residential streets in places life Fulham where you can buy a cheap cup of tea/ coffee and sit for an hour without being bothered.

I'm aware there are things to do. But if you don't know London well and aren't au fait with the UG, it's not as straight forward as just taking a mosey to Hyde park. I wouldn't even know how together there or if 2 hrs is enough time to make it worthwhile.

That's the trouble, maybe not that there is nothing to do but that it's not easy if you don't already know the place. Luckily Victoria St has The Albert.

You're only a 5 minute walk to St James Park from there, or 5 mins in the other direction will see you to Victoria embankment

Every city the world over is the same. That's why some bright spark started making maps and travel guides.

I'm off to Tokyo again in November, if you think London is busy and difficult to get around, you ain't seen nothing yet....
