Hi everyone.

Completed an online test last week for a very popular web startup, and have been asked to go down for an interview.

They are based at 100 City Road, London

Just wondered where people would recommend to live in London which would give me the best commute, respective of price and time. Have been looking on rightmove and an average flat within 5 miles would cost me about 800/mo, is this right?

Still not sure whether to go or not, but would be interesting to know!

I'd suggest Angel. It's just outside the Congestion Zone, you could walk (or, indeed, cycle) to work from there and it's a pretty cool place to live/socialise. I'd imagine the permits are now £100 a year but, what with rents going up of late, you might need to spend a little more than £800 a month (unless you're sharing). I wouldn't suggest living near or on City Road itself as it's a bit of a dump.

Cheers for the reply. Can't seem to find much property to rent when searching Angel?
Also you mention a permit, what's that??

It's a popular area.

By permit I mean parking permit. There's no free parking anywhere in London these days!

Rightmove probably isn't the best place to be looking, to be honest. You're probably better off checking Gumtree and Loot.

within 5 miles takes you almost out of town, edge of Leyton and Walthamstow, or Seven Sisters

narrow that right down, it will be dearer, but somewhere like Shoreditch shouldn't be too bad (or has it got terribly trendy now?=

Dalston, Shoreditch, Whitechapel, Stepney Green, Wapping....

Dont know your upper budget or how many bedrooms you're after. Angel is an expensive area to rent in, as is EC1 2 3 & 4. However ~a mile east in the E1 E2 E5 E8 E9 areas its more affordalble albeit less desirable

Look at places on the northern line or and easy cycling distance if you want ease of commute and look at zone 1 or 2 if you want a cheap ticket. Although i Commute to Angel daily and a 1-4 weekly travel card is ~£36 monthly its ~£146 which gives me a huge saving of £4 a month... Journey time is approx 40mins but can be a squeeze.

Just depends if you want to spend £xxxx per month on a shoebox on works door step or £xxxx on a 2 bed flat thats 3 miles away.
