Hey all again,

I am going a bit nuts going from garage to garage trying to solve my exhaust issue. My exhaust makes a loud whistle when driving between 2500 - 4000 rpm. I have taken it to one place who have taken out the whole thing and used exhaust sealer and put everything back together. Hoping my issue would be solved, I took it out of the garage only to hear the same annoying whistling sound again. When I asked the mechanic there he simply said "all american cars after market exhausts sound like this". They seem like nice people and I didn't want to offend them by saying I wasn't buying any of that. Went to American car carriage in barnes who seem to have no time for me at all. Had my car in euroamerican specialists who have a great garage but just didn't give me a solution to this problem. I thought I would just ignore it but the whistling sound that's coming out of the left side of the exhaust is getting louder.

I know it's coming from the left side. I had the car lifted and started inspecting the car like a mad man trying to find out what the hell is causing the damn sound but I am no good at this. So once again, I turn to you all. Got a place who are exhaust specialists and experienced that can help fix my problem?

Are you certain it's coming from the exhaust? If you rev the car in neutral from 2500rpm to 4000rpm, does it make the same noise?

Just had a quick google and it appears as though some people are complaining of similar noises from their Hemis, although they are Magnums: clicky. Seems to be Intake related?

Failing that, I had a quick search on the Challenger forum and found this: clicky.

I had the use of a Camaro SS (1SS I think? It had auto transmission) and that also whined/whistled at particular speeds too but it seemed to be the rear differential making all the noise. Oddly, the Corvette with the LS3 lump was as quiet as a mouse, well, only in so much as whines as it was extremely loud and obnoxious otherwise.

Best of luck finding the problem. smile

I can't recommend a garage unfortunately, but it does sound from what you've said that it is probably something other than the exhaust.

Thanks for the replies smile

I have had the car since June 2008 and on stock intake and stock exhaust, the car was perfect. Even when I fit on a zoomers exhaust system on the car, I had no sounds in the beginning. Now I researched what could be the problem and an American friend of mine suggested I check to see if I have the proper clamp fittings. I told him the garage I went to in London used exhaust sealant and he was pretty sure I had the wrong sized clamps on the car. With a few emails here and there and a reliable guy on my side, I confirmed that zoomers did in fact, send me the wrong clamps which caused air leaks all over. Even the exhaust sealant didn't last long.

I did however read that it could be a problem with the intake so I went ahead and did my searching. When the car was on a lift, I asked the guy to rev the engine so we could find the problem. The left tip was loose, so it came off and the whistling sound was so clear and so loud. I didn't take any photos of what zoomers have sent me so I could call them up and complain but I called them up anyway and they were nice to me and told me they have heard about 8 cases and they will send new clamps out asap. It's almost as if they were expecting my call. I didnt have to send photos or any of that to prove my case, so by next week I will hopefully have my clamps and will need to find a new garage to re-install everything.

Yes if I rev the car up to 5k, you hear the same sound. Sounds like a turbo to be honest

I wish I can record it to show but every time i attempt to record the sound, someone's car alarm goes off

I heard it at the Sunday Service, sounded lovely!

Well it's obviously exhaust/induction related. have you had a chance to check all the intake hoses are on nice and tight?

No i haven't checked all the housing but on monday, i continued my search to find a good garage and every time i usually go in a garage, i explain the problem and they get the car up on the lift to see what's wrong. When the car was on the lift, the owner of the garage's son got in to the driver's seat and started revving it. Under the car you can hear all types of weird whistling sounds but they were obvious exhaust leaks and when you rev it, the sound thats been bugging me comes from the mid section of the left tail pipe. Because the clamps fitted currently aren't the correct size, it leaves a tiny gap open. all I needed was the right sized clamps and i could finally continue to tune the car more.

Which way are you heading to the Sunday Service, Rodimus?

If you're going to head along the M40 there's going to be a few of us from the Thames Valley forum meeting at the Beaconsfield services (Junction 2) for a small convoy to the meet.
