Where would you live if you were a mid twenties couple wanting to rent a 1 bedroom place.

Things I've looked at have revealed that the half decent bits of each place are similar in price, they both have the district line, they both have large parks nearby, although Richmond is greener obviously.

They both have plenty of eateries and bars, and they're both close to either London shopping or Kingston which I regard as the best shopping in the area.

What would you guys choose? And why?

Wimbledon but the village not the town (assuming budget allows). Lots of greenery, like being in a proper country village yet near to London. lots of lovely bars and restauramnts, nice shops, nice people.

Richmond is lovely also but personally wimbledon village would be my choice.

Yes, I should have said I'd only be looking at the village, haven't decided whether I'd want to venture torwards southfields really. Bit SA for my liking hehe

It seems to be a bit of a tough area though up there, you can spend £1200 and get something quite nice, and you can spend £2000 and get something quite nice...

yup that true, look down parkside & also the ridgeway, its not far & some of the large mansion blocks etc have some nice properties. Also down along arthur road where you can walk to village in 10 mins but get more value for money (think its wimbledon park station there)

I'd personally avoid southfields, I used to live there, its a bit chaotic. earlsfield has come up a long way in last few years though.

I was looking at ridgeway yeh, and the slopes at a push. Yes the parkside mansion blocks are lovley, just depends if budget allows I suppose. Arthur road is a good shout, I aw lots of places down there. Its a nice road, plenty of big houses etc, close to the tennis courts too I suppose.

I'm based in Richmond, it's much more convenient if you work in the city as you have the (fast) mainline service straight to waterloo. Pubs are good if pricey but that's to be expected. Probably more a 30s professional crowd bias than wimbledon but there's not much in it. I'd rent the best place you find in either, stick a break clause in the contract and there's always the chance to try t'other! Honestly the river is a major plus if you like running and of course the rugby fan is well catered for here...otherwise you might prefer tennis?!

Well we both work near Twickenham so its better for that. I am a keen cyclist, and she a runner, so again I think we're both well catered for with the park.

However it seems that there are either very few properties on the market at the minute, or we won't have enough money to live where we want to.

Yep, much prefer Wimbledon Village to Richmond. More space - Richmond feels a bit claustrophobic in the residential areas compared to Wimbledon Village... maybe it's the number of townhouses and narrow streets. Wimbledon Common is minutes from the Village/residential areas. And Richmond is run by car-hating Nazis.

Richmond ... it's more "special" (as in good special). Or, maybe try St Margarets.

Cheers,
