more pressingly for forest tomorrow night but also with an eye on the world cup - where are the best pubs for watching footy in central london? usually do sports bar or walkabout in temple but they will be way to heaving for the world cup. any suggestions?

Correct.

My living room on a great tv, with great company, cheap beer, nice food, and the chance to pause, rewind, stop when ever I want, oh and most importantly spark up whenever I please without standing in the pissing rain smile

Not sure "best" is the right word but it's huge and has a massive projector and screen - The Crosse Keys on Gracechurch Street. It's a JD Weatherspoon so does cheap and nasty food and cheap and nasty beer.

Agree with this. Get there early and stand your ground. Best to take the village idiot with you, so he can keep going up to the bar for you. IIRC, they pop round with big drums of beers, but they're usually warm and all say Budweiser on them.

The Crosse Keys does give you a chance of seeing the screen because it's immense. Good luck getting served though.

Barracuda on Houndsditch is huge and not too awful.

I quite like the Rising Sun, on Carter Lane - good big screens, good beer, excellent Thai food upstairs.

All these are in the City though - I don't know about the centre/West End...

If you fancy something a bit leftfield The Black Heart in Camden is showing some (or all) of the games. It's a fantastic quiet spot so you might even stand a chance of getting to the bar at half time.
