I live in the 90% discount part of the congestion charging zone. I pay my charge monthly and have done for the past year, consistently.

Last month, I paid the charge, and stupidly did not write down the receipt number. I did not receive a receipt, and i later foudn out that no money was taken from my account. Essentially i haven't got a leg to stand on.

The sad part to this story is that TfL delayed sending me the first PCN for over 3 weeks. So, by the time i had received the first PCN, i was already 3.5weeks into the month that I thought I had paid for. 18 x £60 is obviously alot of money for someone with a car that isn't worth as much as these fines.

I have obviously appealed, but I fear I know what they will say already... "you went into the zone for 18 days and didnt pay for the charge on any day, therefore you must pay the fine for every day you didnt go in".

But, for those of you that pay monthly/ weekly like me, you will understand that not checking the SMS/Receipt that you get is an easy mistake to make, and their delaying tactics simply allow them to print money from the unsuspecting driver... any advice??

That's really unfortunate.

I pay it online, that way you get e-mailed the receipt and it's all there on your account.

Best of luck getting it resolved.

Did you pay over the phone? Do you remember which day and what time?

As I udnerstand it, they record all calls and might be able to pull up a recording of your conversation with their operative. I successfully appealed a PCN last year that was the result of their incompetence, after they listened to the recording of the relevant call.

Good luck getting it sorted.
