I was driving north at around 10.30 pm last night and used the blackwall tunnel

as they're doing night works to the northbound tunnel they've diverted southbound traffic and re-routed the northbound traffic through the southbound tunnel

they've also imposed a 20mph limit which is very much enforced through SPECS and a they also have a van in attendance to capture anything else the SPECS cameras miss - I set the cruise on and crawled through but dozens of cars ignored the temporary limit and found out to their cost all too late

I know it's a ball ache but spare yourselves the points and tax and keep it to 20mph smile

Very old news and how do you know they found out to their cost, were they pulled up? BTW, where was the van parked?

might be old news for some for others it might not be

bit obvious they're going to get a NIP when there's a ANPR van parked on the closed approached on the north side with a traffic car parked alongside

they had the sliding door open and as I was going so slowly I could see 3 plod sat inside

Thanks for the heads up on the van although I have reset my alarm by a few minutes so I go through just after they change it back over at around 4.15am. On the couple of occasions I have been through earlier people do tend do fly past me at well over the limit but I did wonder if the specs cameras work as my mate often speeds through and he's not been done..........yet.

It's not being diverted anywhere, it's a case of find another route.

In that case, Rotherhithe Tunnel, I guess.

Which is closed for roadworks more often than not.

Time to get my stunt-man boots on, then. Should be able to jump the Thames given enough run up...

the millennium bridge has a wide dogleg to do a 3 point turn and there's no bollards onto the road coming from the front of the tate modern wink

The Greenwich Foot Tunnel would suit me best but the Boxster is just too big to fit into the lifts.

If you are in a car it's either Dartford bridge or Tower bridge, in a truck it'll have to be Southwark bridge or Dartford. Aparently the traffic on the north side is horrendous from around the time the closure goes in until after midnight.

Speaking as somebody who often has to drive from Walthamstow to Bromley on Monday mights it is a total shambles. How, after 8 years of serious disruption and regular closure, they still need to close one bore at night for most of the week for the next 2 and a half YEARS I do not know.

As said, it is chaos and nobody seems to give a stuff.

I have the choice of driving into the city and across Tower Bridge, or going out on the A12 and round the M25. It's an utter ballache and I pity those having to do it every day.

Of course they could have tried using their brains and making sure the Rotherhithe tunnel wasn't closed the same night as the Blackwall tunnel, or they could even have put a contraflow in on the other tunnel bore like it had every fking morning for years, but they would be too sensible.

There is a group protesting about it - they have a page on Facebook.

I'm not holding my breath though...
