I'm heading into London in the morning from Northampton. Best solution for the days needs are to drive into an outlying tube station, park up and go in on a tube ticket.

So, heading in from the M1, what are my best and/or easiest options?

I use Finchley central, 5 minutes from J2 of the M1.

From memory, Mill Hill, Edgware, High Barnet (have to park a fair way away on residential roads though IIRC) or maybe Stanmore?

yes

Probably the closest tube station to the M1/M25 junction. Certainly easy to get to - turn off the M25 at J24 and just keep going until you see the station.

Hey everyone. I'm coming down to London from either the M1 or M40. What's the best place to park my car and get either a tube or train into central london?

Apologies for not re-checking back in - I went for Finchley Central in the end!

Where did you park mate and would you recommend it?

I managed to find a non "residents or permits only" bay and stuck the car in there, 3 or 4 streets away if I remember correctly. It was fine - far easier than driving all the way into the centre, and cut the cost/hassle of a mainline train out the equation.

I'd not done the drive/tube route before - but it's my route of choice now. I've since gone in parking outside my aunt's old house up the road from Bushey station, which was just as easy - and parking was easier.

There's a car park actually at Fichley Central station which is pretty cheap and must hold a couple of hundred cars.

Good point, I'd forgotten that - but I went late morning and it was full. Booo!
