There's a possibility I might be heading up to Scotland to pick up a car next weekend. However, there are two issues: Firstly it has quite a big spares package; secondly it's not the sort of thing I'd relish driving all the way back from Scotland if it was raining.

So, does anyone fancy heading up to Scotland with me to pick up the car? Needless to say you'd be generously re-imbursed in advance for fuel and any other expenses.

The main thing is I need access to a large-ish car (preferably an estate, van or 4X4) to bring the spares back. After that a car trailer would be an advantage, but I might just man-up and drive the new toy back. There's also the possibility of getting flights up and then hiring something to transport the spares back and dropping it off in London. Finally, I might just fly up, drive the car back and courrier the spares.

So, any suggestions on the best way to get the car and/or bits back? If all elese fails, does anyone know any companies I could comission, or anything else that might be useful?

And, secondly, any volunteers? biggrin

Put this in London section because I'd be finishing up in Enfield and also some of you know that I'm not an axe murderer or other anti-social type!

Just drive it back. What is it? Anything less than RWD, no TC and 600bhp and you're being a big Jessie!! If it snows, I'll take it all back, though. thumbup

It's a Caterham. And although 6,000rpm on the motorway with no roof and no heater/demist isn't the most appealing prospect I would still drive it back (and probably around the Highlands a bit beforehand) if it wasn't for the fact there's quite a large spares package and, well, have you seen a Caterham's boot? smile

If I buy it I think I'll be dropping Iguana (PHer who runs a car transport business) a quick shout to look into transportation.

Actually that raises another possibility. He mentioned he's doing quite a lot of work in Scotland at the moment. Maybe therefore, I could pay him to pick up the spares en-route, while I drive back with a silly grin on my face? scratchchin

When do you need the spares bringing down? I do Scotland - London about once a month if that's any good....

The spares are potentially less critical than the car.

Unfortunately both are on hold at the moment as the second batch of photos show what looks like a rather rusty chassis. Thanks for the offer - I'll drop you a PM if things change.

Never simple buying cars, is it? rolleyes

No Scottish road trip. Just a much shorter one to Essex! Went for a different example in the end.

Looking forward to burning a few people's retinas out at the next North London meet - it's very, very yellow! cool
