Burglary Chavs in Wapping
Discussion
Once was around 6pm on a Saturday night, the other I don't know.
The first incident was quite shocking. The lady hadn't answered her buzzer, so they thought she was out. Next thing she hears a bang and the door, including the frame (i.e. bolts/locks held), is sat in her hall and she has to confront a large black guy and small woman. They ran in, snatched a handbag and then ran off.
Think we live in the same building as I got a letter outlining the exact same events...unless it has happened everywhere in Wapping?! I've noticed that the front door still gets left open quite a lot which doesn't help... Thankfully no one's broken into the car so better than Limehouse!

Which of the buildings are you in? I'm in the first one (number ends in 2). Our front door is pretty good as far as I can tell. The thing that gets me is the t**t in the gold volvo estate. I've asked him nicely to wait for the carpark gates to close before leaving. He politely agreed then never does it.
We've just had our internal/external security upgraded in Wapping after some chancer with a jemmy managed to get past the front door lock. Now you can't get out of the foyer even if you do somehow get inside the building. It's a faff with keyfobs and the like, but better than finding someone's made off with your telly and crapped on your bed.
Toying with the idea of a wifi cam outside my internal door. But I have two thoughts on this:
(1) good idea - might even get a picture of the pond life and email it to me. Might also mean that they look for an alternative / easier floor/target.
(2) bad idea - screams "I have the best toys, burgle me first".
Thoughts?

Re. point 2 - how about installing it above someone elses door, but pointing at yours (1) good idea - might even get a picture of the pond life and email it to me. Might also mean that they look for an alternative / easier floor/target.

If nothing else you'll be able to see exactly what you're missing before you get home, as you watch them carry it all out.Curator said:

I bet either of them could produce a sizeable amount. If she's one of the gang I wouldn't hold out much hope for the contents of the fridge and food cupboards either. There's a few attempts to get in each block every so often. Our porter hears of about one a month in surrounding places. Isn't there any CCTV of these characters getting into the blocks? We got some quite nice video of the chap who made off with the pictures in the communal corridors last year. I believe he's being bummed at her majesties pleasure currently....
Alas no CCTV in our blocks other than the car park. Though it's been mentioned and this may push people in favour.
Thinking about a VP1000 now. About £60 for a wireless alarm that give you an alert if it's triggered (via BT for £5 a month). Could then put the wifi webcam on the inside facing the door and then should never get any false alerts.
Will probably put the siren on the outside. That way if I get an alert and the webcam shows the door is on the floor, I can contact the boys in blue and hopefully get some lowlife booked in for quality bumming time.
