And the cause? The eastbound exit of the new 'Billingsgate tunnel' was coned off and the full weight of escaping London rush-hour traffic was funnelled off down the sliproad and into the waiting grasp of a full-weight police operation with what looked (fleetingly) like 20 uniforms with at least half a dozen liveried tenders. Bits of camera-like equipment were set up on the kerb. No idea what they were up to but the resulting jam was hideous - with every side street and rat run for miles absolutely stationary. I was trying to get to the St Katherine's Waitrose and decided it was less painful to starve. Nice.

I was going the other way. Left Wapping (whilst flattening the GT's front numberplate on the speed bump opposite the Prospect...I'm sure something has change there) for a journey that usually takes 45 minutes. 2 hours 30 in the end.

What they need is a big lorry with hi res video cameras on the front pointing in all directions. Slowly drive past and gather all the pictures they need at normal A13 rush hour speed (5 mph). Middle can be a big hoover with magnets to pick up all the bits and the rear end a jetwash system to finish off. All sorted in 5 minutes.

Yeah, what have thet done to that Prospect speed bump? I had a problem last week negotiating that with an early relative of your GT (but a bit lower and less powerful). Anyway, for the sake of a few grand's worth of fines they caused, what, a couple of £mill of lost hours? Very sensible.
