Bit of a weird one this, but bear with me. At the junction of Fox Lane and The Bourne in Enfield, there's a triangular patch of grass. Within this, there appears to be a square fenced-off area, with what looks like a plaque which I assume gives clues as to what it is. I've passed it a couple of times when I've been down that way, but keep forgetting to stop and have a closer look. I'm just curious.

Anyone on here "local" that can shed some light on what this is?

Thanks.

Yes, this is the pen or rather the floor of the pen that was used to hold stray animals which were picked up in medieval times. The animals were held there until the rightful owners turned up to collect them. Iirc , the owners had to pay a realease fee to get their animals back.

It's funny, I've driven past this little triangle hundreds of times but it was only a few months ago that I bothered to stop and read the description on the sign.

Have you also noticed the stocks situated on Southgate Green opposite the Cherry Tree pub?

Every Sunday I meet some mates for lunch there at the meze bar across the road. I shouldn't be talking to you actually, I went to Osidge Primary and then Ashmole, by the station. My cousins went to Walker. biggrin
