I might have a job based in Hounslow soon, was wondering what it was like? I currently live in Hertfordshire so I'm guessing it will be more expensive in Hounslow. I've also heard its quite dodgy?
Good if you like planes I guess. Generally the best place to be in that area is on a plane in fact.I worked a day a week just off the A4 a few years back and it was the same as working on any industrial estate. Ok and not bad in daylight. Never hung around when it got dark.
It is a bit rough but to be honest I've never had much trouble. Mainly it's little kids acting hard etc, stand upto them and they'll back down quick enough.
Okgo you're right in saying there is a strong asian influence in the area, although there isn't really any animosity between various races as you get in places like Oldham etc.
I grew up there and the only places I've spent any significant time are in Liverpool and Ilford in East London, so to be fair I can't really compare with places like Hertfordshire etc, as all these places are a bit rough. But as I said, tbh I'd imagine you'd be fine.
House prices are quite strong due to the easy links to Central London via the Piccadilly line and Heathrow, but they aren't bad compared to much of the rest of SW and W London. You won't get much better unless you fancy living in a real hole like Feltham etc.

Feltham is in my book much more pleasant than hounslow. And feltham is a wank pit.
And the prices in hounslow are VERY low. like half the price of the same thing near kingston.
That's what I said, the house prices in Hounslow are pretty reasonable compared to surrounding areas. However they are higher then areas (aside from affluent towns and areas like Surrey) outside of London. eg. Most places in the Midlands are a lot cheaper etc, but I'm not really sure about how much housing is in Herts. And the prices in hounslow are VERY low. like half the price of the same thing near kingston.
Having said that, nowhere is Greater London is particularly affordable though.
Oh and mate you have got to be joking about Feltham being more pleasant. I have spent a fair bit of time there due to the cinema etc being there and also had a few friends there and can say honestly that even compared to Hounslow it is a hole. There is a real trashy element to the people there, moreso then in Hounslow. It is also far more imtimidating to be there at night and even during the day I wouldn't go into some of the more local pubs in Feltham, whereas I have no problems going to most pubs in Hounslow.

Hey less of the havin a pop at Feltham, i grew up, went to school and lived in Feltham all my life so im proper Feltham scum! But in answer to your question yes it is a proper st hole now despite all the fancy flats and shops.
Not having a pop at you mate, like I mentioned I do have mates there. But I honestly wouldn't reccomend it to anybody over Hounslow. As far as the flats go, they are overpriced rubbish. Went to have a look at the development by the same people in Hounslow by the Asda and really couldn't believe how much they wanted. In addition to having to live above Asda, you've also got no parking space included, 1.2k service charge and the rooms are pretty small. No wonder that a lot are still empty!
you don't have to live where you work.... whitton / twickenham / hampton / (some of) Isleworth are much better prospects, and ten minutes in a car, although prices do reflect this... past there prices soar a lot higher.... ie Richmond, Teddington etc
personally I wouldn't live in Hounslow although have considered buying places there as they are good value for rental etc
