Where Paradiso used to be. Is it open yet? Anyone tried it?

A friend has tried it and said is was great, but then again he says River View is fantastic, and to be honest that's average.

The prices in the Thai are rather stingy as well. Also, I think I've been in the one near Liverpool Street and didn't think it was up to much.

Thanks. What is the name of the chain? It's on the tip of my tongue and driving me mad!

On Sunday afternoon it was totally rammed - and a good half of the punters looked to be Thai, so it was either a launch party or family. I've never seen Paradiso with more than about three tables occupied so it kinda looked encouraging. Anyway I can't remember the name either but the logo was in pink and did look a bit cheap. Any help?

I went in there with the missus mid week last week. It was reasonably busy, which makes a change for that particular spot, and food was great. Plus they welcomed us with open arms at gone 10pm, which means you can have a few pints beforehand if you fancy it.

Definitely worth a go (but being Wapping-based I'm eager for anything half decent to stay open!).

Me too - have you tried that rib place on Wapping Wall? Nice and uncomplicated, good (maybe even great) ribs/steaks etc and stays open late.

The ribs place is fine, if a little limited. We were in there on the opening day, and it's gone from strength to strength.

But, RE the Thai place it's the prices I object to. £10 for a curry without rice (I assume)? That's full on piss take pricing. The only good thing about that spot is if we ever have a very hot summer again, the aircon is very good.

I'll give it 18 months tops.

They may be able to hang on longer than 18 months. Especially if they get some business planning advice from the Riverview curry place on Wapping High Street. Who'd a thought they would still be there after, what, three years and never a single customer (that I've seen).

Yes, the curry place is a mystery to me. I suspect they do a lot of take away. We do head there occasionally as a change from teh old favourite - Il Bordello.

As for the Thai, they don't seem to have any vegetarian mains. Most odd. Also seems pricey. Are the waitresses cute? wink

I'll have to give that Thai a go. I used to like Paradiso and could never figure out why it was so empty. I'm not such an Il Bordello fan - their pasta's good, but the steak I had there wasn't good at all, and I think I actually had a whole cow on the plate. I like a big steak, but their portion size was just intimidating. I'd rather had better quality meat but less of it.
Gotta give River Spice a big thumbs up as well - far better than anything I've had around Brick Lane, and their Mon-Thurs £8.95 for a starter, main and side is a bargain!

Still reckon someone could make a mint buying over Lilly's and turning it into a good fish restaurant.

Agreed. Lilly's has got worse over the past six months or so. Time was that their rib-eye was absolutely top. Not too vast you got put off, but big enough to stop you having the cheesecake. Now the meat quality has gone off - and the cooking is pretty sloppy too so you never know if it will be anywhere cooked the way you ordered. So they should try proper fish. Good. Fresh. Ingredients. Simply cooked. We agree Gordon.

You have to check out the thai food in Turner's Old Star. Wow! Went there last night and it was one of the best thai meals we've had. And you can was it down with a pint of something decent. Cap khun cup! thumbup

Hhhmmm never been in there as it looks like the sort of place that only half the darts are thrown at the dartboard.

Worth a punt then?

Definately. The most similar pub I can think of would be the town of ramsgate. A bit clicky, family run, pork pies, more like a living room than a pub. Never had any problems, but never been in during a game. Food is well worth it and they do take away if you're not convinced about the ukulele atmosphere.

Chaps, I work next to where the City Nakhon Thai was, and they used to do karaoke every Thursday. Does anyone know if the Wapping one does karaoke? We've got a guy who is desparate to relive some old nights out...

Sadly, when we went to try it, the Thai family that did the cooking went on holiday back to Thailand...and never came back. Don't suppose they've found someone else yet?

Edited to quote the right bit.
