I’m hoping someone has some experience in sourcing cheap (er) tires.

I’ve tried all the usual suspects (MyTyres & Kwik Fit etc) and the best price I’ve got so far is £160.00 for a Continental Sportcontact 2.

I’m after four * 235 / 45 Z R-18 tires.

Anybody found a good shop that does decent prices around Surrey?

Also, has anyone got any recommendations about good hardwearing tyres? I’m after something that will offer good grip, but won’t need replacing in 6 months time!

Cheers,

Wrong forum.

We're big fans of Protyre, but Enfield or Slough is porbably a bit far.

Doh!

How'd you like that... First post on a new (to me) forum, and I'm in the wrong section...

Slough ain't that far to go... I'll give them a call.

Anybody else? My folks are down Hampshire way and I've heard a name like "merytyre" (sp) is good?

TBH i find that go online and try all the tire vendors, get the cheepest quote you can find, print it out and take it to your local "under the arches" tire guy and ask him if he can do better...

99% of the time they will knock a further few quid off and fit there and then.

Quite a few people round my way recommend Bracknell Tyre and Battery as being the cheapest place around, if that's not too far for you.

I've got my tyres from Pitstop Tyre Centre in Hayes as they have always quoted me the lowest when I've shopped around (even online).

Yep they're very cheap so I went there with my Evo to get Goodyear F1's fitted... also came away with some shiny new deep scratches on two of the alloys. Didn't notice until I got home and when I phoned I was told that the guy (child...) who fitted my tyres had noticed the scuffs 'before he started' and they were obviously made by the previous tyre fitter. Funny that this was the first set to be fitted since the car was new and I hand washed the car the day before (and every weekend since new) and didn't notice them... rolleyes

So I went to shiny new place down the road to fit F1's (which I brought in Germany for half the UK price) on my Lexus and they broke two of the tyre pressure sensors clean off! They drove the car out of the garage and handed me the keys as I paid - somehow as he drove the car out of the garage the fitter missed the alarm noise and the dash lighting up like a fecking Christmas Tree telling him two of the tyres had failed! To be fair - they did pay for Lexus to fit two new sensors.

I've never had a problem with Bracknell Tyres (and they are ALWAYS the cheapest by a MILE!) but then again I take the trouble to check the wheels with the fitter before he starts, and to check the work BEFORE I pay them....................

Absolutely - Bracknell Tyres are very cheap and I have been back since. Only difference is as you suggest above I always check the work before paying and talk to the fitter before he starts the work! I also make sure the wheels are clean as the Evo was filthy (despite being cleaned the day before - don't ya love winter in the UK!) hence I didn't notice the scratches until I cleaned the car when I got home.

I would suggest looking in Europe for tyres though - we are ripped off in the UK (like most things car related I guess).

Just used etyres after coming back from holiday to find 2 flats on the Rangie (probably something to do with bashing around woodlands)

Decided to stick 4 on and they didn't do too bad a price for next day fitting at my home.

£148 a corner fully fitted + valves, ballancers and VAT for 255/55/R19 Pirelli Scorpion Zero's.

still not cheep, but better than the £205 a corner quoted by the ThickGit Fitters.
