Can anyone recommend a good garage in East London to do some work on an HMC mkIV (replica Healey 3000 with the ubiquitous 3.9 V8)? Nothing too major - annual service, and possibly a small leak somewhere in the clutch system -just have had problems with garage's in the past who have shy-d away from working on anything "unusual" like this. Any help appreciated... Thanks

I gave up trying to find a good specialist garage in east london that i trusted and that didnt apply the KY before handing me the bill.

I go way out of town these days (take my Jag to a specialist in Surry, more affordable, and i feel i can trust them to do a proper job)

No disrespect intended to London garages in general, just that i personally got burnt and the end result is the above £0.02p worth!

Try Docklands Tyre and Exhaust on Commercial Road near Limehouse DLR. The chap there is really helpful and should be able to help you out.

Try avoiding Docklands Tyre and Exhaust - their prices are excessive, and they are picky gits when it comes to MOT's.

I used them a couple of times, the second time was worse than the first and I have never been back there.

Coburn Motors is excellent, and the guy who runs it ('Bob') is very helpful. They are quite busy, but are an excellent, slightly old-school 'local' garage. 020 8980 8808 is their number.

The only places I know in East London are Barry Ely (Stratford-ish) or Sinclaire's of Romford.

B.Ely's looks like a car graveyard but I am told his work is good (NO idea about his hourly rate tho)

Sinclaire's have quite a high hourly iirc?

Hey Cool!!

I can't sneak about anywhere

I hope my driving had been suitably obnoxious - but usually buy the time I'm turning from the A2 into KPR, I'm on my way home / done! - If I'm turning towards the A2 then it's still warming up!! lol

You could try flashing your lights / waving next time but I'll probably just get paranoid and think that either you think I've done something wrong or that you're warning me there's Police behind you!! Hahaha!

I'm REALLY paranoid atm! I drove from Bexleyheath to Croydon last Thu and got tailed twice and then stopped when I arrived - all in one 30 minute journey!

It will take herds of wildebeest stampeding across the plains to stop me making the next tunnel run! esp. as I have been randomly plonked as a team leader - so I have responsibilities! - Mouths to feed! lol

Will also do the next tunnel run, arrangements permitting

Cu saturday week!

Used Globe International Autos off the Stepney Road the other week. Didn't try to do me with any unnescesary work, seemed to know his stuff about cars of all shapes and descriptions and claimed to be an elecrtricals specialist. More importantly he was friendly and eager to please the customer which is all too rare these days.

I have heard that they are very good at diagnostic work, but their business practices are possibly not what they might be. Good to have a good report of them.
