Public transport FTW.

There is for HoP, but quite (not extremely, surprisingly enough) expensive at £8/hr - https://www.q-park.co.uk/en-gb/cities/london/westm... Pre-book is the way to go.

BoE is more difficult, since you're in the City, one on London Wall I've used is quite cheap at £3/hr, a good 10 mins walk though and you can't pre-book, so spaces often hard to come by. https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/services/transport... Much bigger NCP down on Lower Thames, probably nearer to 20 mins walk, and it's £10/hr, but much cheaper if pre-booked.

You can drive in to town, but ease is very much time dependent, and of course you have congestion charge of £11.50 per day for both locations. Far easier to park on the outskirts and use rail/underground to access. If you let us know where you're coming from I'm sure folk will offer cost and time efficient solutions.

In which case I'd probably park somewhere like Ruislip or similar at the end of the M40 and start of the Central Line (straight to Bank), or somewhere like Edgware , (big shopping centre there, with very big car park, and easy to get to via M40/M25/M1 ) and hop on the Northern Line, again straight to Bank.

If it were me though, I'd train it into Marylebone and hop on Bakerloo/Central Lines to Bank - I've done that journey in reverse on Chiltern many times, with a total travel time of about 2hrs, it's far quicker than the car, and Business Zone seats mean you can get some work done too.

That's what I'd do. I live in London and would always take the train to Brum. If I wanted to go to the Bank of England I'd take the tube to Bank (it's literally right outside). For the Houses of Parliament or Westminster (ditto).

I gave up driving to and from Brum 15 years ago. It's a PITA.

If you're dead set on driving the whole way there's an NCP called Vintry Thames Exchange I think which you'll have to pre-book to be sure of getting a place.

Another option would be to drive from Brum to somewhere outside London like St Albans (If you would even consider the M1.....) And jump on the Thameslink which takes you to St Paul's.

Out of interest why are you so keen on driving It? Getting into London in the morning on the M40 or M1 is hell on earth. The City is now hard to cross by car and can take an eternity. Getting back out can be even worse.

I used to drivd everywhere but these days I just download some podcasts and kick back on the train/tube.

No idea why anyone would want to drive into that London these days. I lived there.for 30 years but stopped driving anywhere near the centre in the early 90s.

Much better cheaper and more relaxing to use public transport.

I tend to think the only people that drive in these days are naive provincials who dont know any better or entitled rich tts who demand the right to do so because they consider themselves superior

Drive to Warwick Parkway and get the train/tube. Or a Boris Bike;)

Driving - and especially parking - in central London and the City is just a lot of hassle and expense. By contrast the public transport is world class, albeit busy. Use that instead.

I say this as an enthusiastic resident of 25yrs, and someone who enjoys driving in the right circs.

This sounds like a 'work' trip so I assume the costs of driving (Congestion Charge) and parking aren't a consideration. However, if you want to keep it as simple, stress free and quick as possible then public transport is the only sensible option.

I'd only consider driving if I had something unwieldy to carry or had a follow-on appointment somewhere that needed a car to get to. Do you have a particular set of circumstances that make driving a necessity?

It depends how long your meetings are, upto 4 hours you can go on a meter. HoP for example Smith Square or Dean Bradley st nearly always has meter parking, and isn't silly money. City street parking is a bit more of a problem, there are bays but you can spend a while driving round plus the rate is a bit higher (upto £8 per hour ish I think if you have a diesel)

You drive a Hellcat? Auto or manual?

I went to see one with a manual gearbox in Essex on Friday, didn’t dare to test drive it as the roads were crazy wet. The clutch felt heavy and gearshifts felt agricultural. What are your thoughts about the car?

Hellcat as a daily, ha that is mad! Love it though.

I’ve decided to retract my recommendation about you taking public transport into London. Use the Hellcat and pre-book your parking space! Would love to see you drive this around London.

I'd certainly consider driving to somewhere more accessible then using the Tube. Perhaps Westfields white city as a carpark. Car parks are pretty tight, expensive, congestion charge etc... and it's certainly slower than using the public transport.

That said - if you go in to the square mile before 6am you'll get a space somewhere AND be able to hit necessary engine RPMs to rewards your ears along some of the glass corridor roads smile
