Commuting out not in!
Discussion
Have done nearly 9 years earlsfield to Guildford but lots of trips to Bristol farnborough and elsewhere down m3 m4 and m40. You would be ok leaving very early (like setting off day about 6 - 630 ish) but gets very busy very quickly and you would be trying to get a fair way north of the a3 most of the time.
Bike would be ok but car congestion is a problem - first issue is getting north of the rail lines - there are surprisingly few roads heading over the Waterloo main line; Garrat lane through earlsfield past he station is a nightmare at peak times, Trinity road really busy too.
Up north over the river to m4 is always busy and the m3 is terrible due to the ongoing roadworks plus you have to either do a3 then m25 (probably the way to go) or out through putney etc which is lots of lights. A3 onto m25 sees heavy queues every morning bar the highest holidays.
Personally I would take the train and enjoy the time to myself but I am fed up of driving my commute
