Hello, I have a Fiat 500 and was wondering what oil to use
What would be the best brand?
Many thanks and much appreciated,

Look in the owners manual and find the correct engine you have.

Then buy what it says.

Or go to Halfords and they will check via the number plate.

Thank you Andrew - superbly helpful - I shall call Halfords as I don't have my manual with me today - I assume is Halfords store (where they sell bikes, car accessories etx) as opposed to one of their garages.....

Depends why you need oil, if it's just to top it up then one of their normal stores will have what you need.

If you're wanting to drain and re-fill the oil I'd take it to another garage unless you are competent enough to do it yourself.

thanks Andrew - just check and top up - it's a relatively new car - 2 years old - but I will be making a 200mile trip soon and would kike to know it's at a good level - also it would be good for me to know the type/brand of oil I should use in future for when I do this myself

Fiat use Petronas oil.

All depends on what engine you have.

Thank you Grant - this is useful - the engine is 1.2...looked at petronis - looks quite expensive at Halfords but i would prefer to use what is best for the Fiat......
I assume when I need to top oil it will tell me on the dashboard????
I have been checking manually thought as I make a 200 round trip once a week and so check it before and since I pucrhased th ecar a few months ago I have not needed to top it up...but this is by me checking the dipstick manually....
This leads me to another question - i have read that with the Fiat 500, it is best to check oil levels on a flat surface and after starting the engine for 5 mins then shutting it down - it seems odd this but they say that it gives a more accurate reading of the oil levels as oppose to checking it when the engine has been left cold unused over night......any ideas anyone?.......i shall post another thread ref this one as i think it woul dbe good to know.....
