Brooklands College - Moving to London
Discussion
Chaps,
I'm looking to change my life and this involves going to Uni, the course i'm looking to do is done at a few places, one of which is brooklands.
I've had a look at house share properties and a few seem decent (5 bedroom houses near ascot).
I'm not familiar with the trains/underground in this area so would it be an arse of a commute? I think its Ashford station I need.
Price wise I think the rent was £450 a month for all bills included minus wifi.
Would I be better looking at other areas? Ideally id like a flat/apartment of my own while i'm down there. I'll be there for two years and will be working when I'm not studying.
Its a huge change for me as I currently do a 9-5 but its just turned into a dead end job with not much in the way of prospects no which they've shafted me on really.
Also, any other things I need to be aware of? I qualify for the highest of Grants possible so rent & basics will be covered. I'd put my budget at around tops of £600 a month for rent which covers houseshare comfortably but as I said id prefer my own place if possible.
Any other things I should be thinking about? This won't be happening until next September so i'm trying to have all angles covered before I 100% commit...

Oh I would have thought so, i'm just unfamiliar with the area whereas I know a little bit of Cobham, Ascot etc and I know them to be ok areas.
I'm unfamiliar with the others as such!
Weybridge is very nice, and is very near Brooklands, ten min bike ride would get you from Weybridge to most places in Brooklands I reckon. Ir five min drive. Must be a few houseshares around there.I'm unfamiliar with the others as such!

Yeah, I've seen that.
I'm pretty sure its the Weybridge Site
You are probably better off looking for something down there and saving on the train fare.I'm pretty sure its the Weybridge Site
The trouble is Weybridge is prime stockbroker/footballer belt territory, so there is not going to to be much in the way of flatshares or that much to do.
However, the ones that do exist won't be crazily expensive (it is not the type of property people generally look for in Weybridge), and you are much better off getting the train into London a couple of times a week for a night out rather than every day.
I have done what you intend to do and first of all I would contact Brooklands College if that's where you intend to study as they will be able to provide you with a list of persons in the area who rent just to students at reasonable cost.
If you want any more information on the area and the course feel free to send me a message.

During your studies you'll want to go out socially. Weybridge/ascot/chertsey etc are all very boring and getting into/back from London can be very laborious.
Maybe Guilford or Woking as they will have more on offer for accommodation and be a bit better if you want a few beers with your mates.
I'm temporarily in Zone 6 for a few months but i find a car essential.
