I'm moving out of central london (boo) to Hertfordshire in a couple of months. To save money and for fitness I'd like to carry on cycling, but the whole way to work is too far. Work is circa 4 miles from Cricklewood or 6 miles from Hendon (both on the train route in from St Albans). The question is, if I lock my bike up at either of those stations, how long will it stay there? I'd be looking to lock it up overnight and take it home on the train over the weekend.

Assume I'll use a couple of decent D locks (Kryponite or similar) through the frame and both wheels.

Thanks

I should have added - the bike itself isn't worth much - an old Trek 7.1 hybrid that looks tatty but has been reasonably maintained. It's not the value of losing it, it's more the hassle of replacing it that would annoy.

I lock my bike up at a mainline London station every day and leave it there most weekends etc. It's a Cove Hustler so not a bad bike and touch wood I've not had a problem yet. My feeling is it's a bit like car or home security, you just make your bike the one that looks harder to nick than the next so they move on by it.

I use a very tough mini D lock with a cable through both wheels and the forks, and a mini cable through the seat post. Both of the cables connect to the D lock.

My main locks:

This is quite a light solution too as the bigger the D-lock the heavier the setup if you have to take them with you. Generally I leave my locks at the station though and keep a massive chain at the office.

I also put my cable lock through my pedals at the weekend to so they don't walk as they cost £100 too.....
