Hi all,
Maybe unrealistic but, currently living in Amersham zone 9, I'm looking to move closer to London within zone 3 and 6 for a max rent of 1000 x month. Looking for a decent size 2 bedroom or better still 3 bedroom house close to tube station (around 0.2 or 0.3 of a mile)with lines leading to Baker St or Marylebone.
Might sounds strange but, I don't want to leave IN London as I prefer the village feel, plus kids due to come soon.
Areas I know and would be happy in are,Ruislip, Hatch End, Pinner, unfortunately all around 400 a month over budget. Areas I wouldn't like to move are the likes of Croydon, Brixton, Watford, no offence to anyone, just not my cup of tea.
Any other areas I should be looking at?

Thanks

Probably not much help but, I grew up in the area you want to move to and now live in Bucks. I would stay where you are, a much better place to live and bring up children. I still go back to visit family, it is too congested, over populated and property prices are ridiculous for what you get. I loved it when I lived there but I'm glad that I now live in the Chilterns and get to leave London behind once I have left work.

All advises welcome, may I ask which area where you in? Ruislip, Hatch End, Pinner areas seems to be calm places.
As you said, leaving London behind and be able to go for a walk or drive it is important

I grew up in Eastcote, funnily enough I was there visiting family when I saw your post. Spent most of my formative years in and around Ruislip, Hatch End, Pinner. Northwood etc. As London suburbs go, it is one of the better ones and is quite convenient for the tube/M40.
When I lived there, I loved it but, having moved away I don't miss it and if I'm honest I prefer the country life.
Just a thought, if you are using the tube, will it be much quicker than from Amersham?
How long since you spent time around there? It's changed a lot over the last few years.

Thanks.
Length of travel it is not really an issues, more trying to cut down on costs, although not as easy as first thought. I started looking around Bedfordshire where house prices are much lower, but with the extra cost on commuting I would be around 1K worst of per year. Ruislip, Hatch end area would save me 1K on travel but this would be cancelled by the higher rents.
To be honest, I've only be around those areas on a Saturday afternoon for couple of hours, felt ok but never spent much time in there. Would like Wendover, which, for some reason it is cheaper than travelling to Amersham (!)but, than again, house prices.....

Keep looking on Gumtree, The flat I have just moved out of was 1 bed converted warehouse with parking in Chiswick and £1200pm, found it on Gumtree and couldn't have been more perfect. You should be able to find a 2 bed flat in Acton/Shebu for your budget, def in Ruslip. It will be a flat rather than a house but still should be do able!

I grew up in Harrow (meh) the other half in Pinner (plenty nice enough) and the other areas you mention are also entirely reasonable.

You would come inside budget on something smallish but you won't need to add a vast amount to it for something nice.

We're currently just outside Uxbridge (Denham) and when we buy will likely also be looking at the areas you mention for the same reason (she works opposite Baker Street station).

How do you find Harrow? Only went there once, walked form the train station to the shopping centre through the town centre (I think it was) tbh didn't make a great impression.
I had a look on Zoopla for around 2 weeks now and I haven't found anywhere has cheap and spacious, unless it is further out which would increase the cost on commuting.

Something will come up
