Hi folks,

An interloper here from the Scottish section. smile

I'm down in the big smoke this weekend with the wife and will probably do a littlew Chrimbo shopping while down. Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of a bespoke type coffee house? I'm looking for the sort of place that has obscure types of beans (unground) and fancy coffee related paraphernalia. It's for my dad who's a bit of a coffee geek and loves to try different stuff.

We're staying at The Gore but will be up by Selfridges and over by Harrods areas during the day and Berkeley Sq area in the evening on Sat.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

James

Harrods have an excellent coffee section but I'm not sure about all the paraphernalia but being Harrods I reckon this is well covered.

Fortnum & Masons on Piccadilly is worth a shout.

For buying coffee beans it's got to be Monmouth Coffee http://www.monmouthcoffee.co.uk/company they have a place in Covent Garden. Failing that Fortnum and Mason have a big range of coffee as I would guess would Harrods.

Oh and there's also a great Coffee App for London with most of the independent shops listed.

Was handed the first two packets of coffee to come out of the machines when the shop was being fitted out. The van on the way home smelt fantastic lick

You will find this splice from the smell. Not much to look at from the outside but often the best places aren't

Is it worth having them ground to be used in a cafetiere?

Not sure if it would be better than my waitrose own brand coffee.

It's the way I do it. yes Grind and straight in the cafetiere - much fresher than pre-ground beans, IMO.

Definitely worth a trip to Fortnum & Mason. Aside from the coffee, it's a great place to find tasty stocking fillers if you're on a Christmas shopping mission. And the window displays are splendid at this time of year.

Another vote for Algerian Coffee Shop, but I recommend the Vietnamese coffee.

My local coffee shop that uses Monmouth and has just opened another shop nearby is using Nude Espresso beans in it's new place.....really good. Smoother I would say than Monmouth.

http://www.nudeespresso.com/

They have places in Soho Sq and Brick Lane...
