Hi

I feel like I can't see the wood for the trees here.

Starting a job in Oxford Circus next week and trying to work out the best ticket option, as I don't understand oyster cards I was hoping for some advice!

My travel will be West Horndon - Fenchurch, then there's a whole bunch of ways to get to OC but the best seems to be walk to Bank and Central line-it.

According to the season ticket calculator, I can get:

WHR - Zones 1-6 £3172
WHR - FST £2116 and oyster

The oyster seems to be £2.10 per journey, so twice a day for the working days in a year £1062.60 (253 not counting annual leave, after taking off 23 days £966)

£2116 + £966 if I take all my leave comes to £3082

From here, doesn't look like there's much difference (less than £100, when the way people have been talking about oyster I thought I'd save a lot more) - and what if I get nifty and hop around while I'm already there (after work, lunchtimes if I'm lucky) and do more than £4.10 of journeys? Again, heard something about the card working out the cheapest ticket option/travel card to charge for the day but not sure on that.

Is zone-covering the better option here?

IMHO no, you only have to be I'll for a week, WFH now and then or not go to that office as you have a meeting elsewhere etc and it quickly becomes not worth it.

If you do more PAYG journeys in one day the daily deduction is capped at equivalent zone travel card limit.

Oyster PAy as you go for a couple of months (set up autotopup) and monitor real cost & use with online account.

With the job it's not the type to be working from home or going to meetings - I was just hoping that now I'll actually be in London already I can get my arse to all the gigs I keep missing on week nights.

But guessing that it'll be the zone 1/2 part of the world and whatever at the weekend. Had a look at the TFL fare table.

Will Oyster and monitor - thanks eastsider
